ABC Renews Scandal, Cancels GCB, Adds Nine New Shows

As announced by Shonda Rhimes herself on Twitter just a short while ago, with just one episode remaining in its first season, Scandal has been picked up for a season number-two.

The uber producer/creator added that she’s “still waiting to hear” about the fate of Private Practice, but it's expected to return for a concluding 13 episodes.

ABC, meanwhile, has also given the green light to nine pilots, including one starring all-time TV Fanatic favorite, Connie Britton. The shows that will be included on the 2012-2013 schedule are:

Nashville: A country music-themed soap starring Britton as an industry veteran and Hayden Panettiere as a newcomer.

Zero Hour: Stars Anthony Edwards as a man at the center of a conspiracy after his wife is kidnapped.

Red Widow: Based on the widow (Radha Mitchell) of an assassinated criminal who takes over her late husband’s role in a crime syndicate in order to protect her family.

Family Tools (previously known as Red Van Man): Revolves around a man (Kyle Bornheimer) who reluctantly takes over the family handyman business from his father (J.K. Simmons).

Neighbors: Lenny Venito, Jami Gertz, Isabella Camp, Clara Mamet, Max Charles all move into a coveted New Jersey gated community and learn the neighborhood is comprised of, well, aliens disguised as humans.

How to Live With Your Parents: Multi-camera sitcom that stars Sarah Chalke as Polly, s divorced single mom who moves back in with her eccentric parents played by Elizabeth Perkins and Brad Garrett.

666 Park Avenue: Dave Annable and Rachael Taylor star as a couple who agrees to manage New York City apartment complex owned by characters played by Terry O’Quinn and Vanessa Williams. A SUPERNATURAL apartment complex, that is.

Last Resort: The crew of U.S. nuclear submarine establishes its very own nation. From Shawn Ryan, cast includes Andre Braugher, Autumn Reeser, Scott Speedman, Dichen Lachman and Bruce Davison.

Malibu Country: A sitcom led by Reba McEntire and focusing on a recent divorcée who moves her kids and mother (Lily Tomlin) from Nashville to Malibu.

UPDATE: ABC has just announced it has also canceled GCB, Missing, The River and Pan Am.

the reason they are cancelling the show Missing is because ABC is owned by the thugs that Missing exposes in its show...its not just a show, its real life...come on people support Ashley Judd and support the effort to fight against human trafficking. peace out

I really liked Missing. I will miss it. Don't understand why it wasn't given a chance. It reminds me of the movie Taken. The acting was excellent and the setting was great. I am so disappointed. Reality shows don't interest me and a good comedy sitcom is rare these days. That leaves me CNN.

I really hate to HEAR that they are going to cancel MISSING !!!!! I have not missed 1 show, and now I have learn who is who on the show. The show has a story to it.... Maybe they need to change the night, did anyone ever think about that ???? I'm so sick of the reality shows... The reality shows showing body parts, showing people with drinking, eating, sex problems ....... Also I like the show GBC, yes its silly but Funny !!!!!! I'm so happy to hear that the show Scandal WILL BE ON NEXT YEAR !!!!! Also Revenage, the show has a good story plot, ect. just as Missing does. Thank God some of the show are coming back !!!!

You people are so stupid. You cancel Missing which is bad enough but you also cancelled Pan Am. All the more reason for me to stop watching ABC. You must have the same people who cancelled the daytime shows for stupid stuff in the afternoon cancellingthe nighttime shows.

You cancel missing? That is stupid! Yeah your competing with Idol but still. This is more the reason why I'm going to HBO!

Shame on you for cancelling Missing - one of the best new shows on. Every time I get interested in a really good show you guys cancel it. Nothing like Missing on TV. Just change the night.

Can't believe ABC cancelled Missing. The show was amazing with all its twists & turns. You never knew what was going to happen. Couldn't wait for the next episode. Now its gone. Shame on you ABC.

Everytime a good show comes along. ABC cancels it. Just like pulling of amc, oltl. on daytime tv and replaces them with reality tv shows. please keep missing. Its the best show i'ved watched in a long time. You'd be stupid to cancel it. You never put it on for full season. You people at ABC suck!!!!!

Very, very happy about Scandal. Love Kerry Washington. Thanks ABC.

GCB is the best show I've seen in awhile I'll fight very hard not too have it cancelled the cast and story line is top notch
