Private Practice Review: "Fear of Flying"

There was a lot going on last night on Private Practice, both in terms of patient stories and character drama. While tough to follow at times, it certainly didn't lack for drama.

"Fear of Flying" gets underway with Addison's pregnant patient, Elisha, who's about to marry her boyfriend, Esau, a Kenyan who needs a physical to get his visa renewed.

However, Sam finds he has tuberculosis - untreatable - and he is quarantined. The couple decides to make a run for it, but ultimately comes back when she goes into labor.

Immigration shows up to take him away, and it's very sad. Sam pretends he's sick long enough for him to see his baby, who will have to remain in the U.S. for treatment.

Meanwhile, Sam is apparently good with Addison and Pete now. The reason for that? New girlfriend Vanessa. Even though he thinks about Addison while he's with Vanessa.

Does this strike anyone else as a little hard to believe? Would Addison and Pete really cry in each other's arms, longing for other people ... while hooking up themselves?

It's a tad weird.

Naomi and Her Boss

Naomi's smack in the middle of the latest Private Practice love triangle.

Elsewhere on the Pete front, he treats a couple who find out she's allergic to his sperm. Really. Man, just when you thought you'd seem every crazy sexual problem on this show.

After they try condoms and she almost dies, Pete encourages them to break up, but has a change of heart when he realizes just how in love with each other they are. Touching.

Naomi, meanwhile, is going on a date with her boss, William, until Fife says he loves her. He just comes out and says it, a bold move, but albeit maybe presumptuous. Whatever.

Addison, on the advice-giving outside looking in on the love triangle for once, thinks Nae likes Fife more than she lets on. Which she admits ... but goes out with William anyway.

Sister of Derek Shepherd Cast on ... Private Practice

We met Derek's older sister, Nancy, on Season 3 of Grey's Anatomy. Now we'll meet his little sister, Amelia. That's right, we have Little Grey, now Little McDreamy is coming!

To Private Practice.

Seriously, it's true, as odd as it might sound. Caterina Scorsone (Crash) is joining the Private Practice cast in the new, recurring role of Dr. Amelia Shepherd, EW reports.

Of all the hospitals ...

Caterina Scorsone PictureThe Interim Chief

Amelia Sheperd, sister of Derek, is coming to Private Practice!

Scorsone joins the Private Practice cast in Episode 19, which is slated to air in early April. She is not going to be heading to Seattle Grace, according to reports, at least not yet.

On Private Practice, her character gets a job at Oceanside Wellness.

According to Fancast, Amelia is "purposely flying under her venerable brother’s radar" when she brings to a somewhat volatile medical case to Oceanside Wellness Center.

So bold is Amelia’s endeavor that Addison is tempted to tell Derek, only to have her former sister-in-law insist she's no longer a “wild teenager” but a peer deserving of respect.

There are no plans yet for her or her brother (Patrick Dempsey) to cross over ... but come on. He has to right? They do these crossover things at least once per season anyway.

Besides, why cast her as the sister of McDreamy if there isn't eventually plans for the Shepherds to interact in some way? What do you think of this surprise casting move?

Kate Walsh on Addison-Sam Story Line: I Like Where it Goes!

Private Practice fans can all agree on one thing regarding this season's will they / won't they courtship of Addison and Sam: It's something they feel strongly about.

In which direction? That's another story.

How does Kate Walsh feel about her character's exploits? Should Addison and Sam cool it and be friends, or is there something there? What about Addison and Pete?

In a recent interview with E!, Kate had this to say about Sam-Addy love: "Yeah, it's pretty polarizing, but I can't even comment. I'm too embroiled in the character."

"I like where it goes though."

Hmm, what do you make of that?

Sam and Addie

Old friends ... and new lovers?

Whether you think they are made for each other or attempts to bring them together are the dumbest thing in the history of the show, Sam and Addison get fans talking.

Addison should totally be with ...

Pete!
Sam!

Private Practice Preview: "Fear of Flying"

This week on Private Practice, Addison, Pete and Sam all come together on a complicated case involving a father-to-be who comes down with tuberculosis and thus threatens the future of his new family ... and anyone else he comes in contact with.

That sounds rather intense... and potentially fatal.

Meanwhile, with Violet having escaped to Costa Rica, Sheldon takes over one of her patients, Natasha, to get over her devastating fear of flying (the episode is called "Fear of Flying").

Lastly, Naomi finds herself in a bit of a love triangle and the two gentlemen we think are involved - Fife and her boss, William - should make things very interesting to watch play out.

Private Practice Review: "Til Death Do Us Part"

Last night on Private Practice, both Sam and Naomi struggled with their mixed emotions as Maya prepared to wed Dink. Addison battled some internal conflict of her own.

Jealous Cooper suspected Charlotte's new beau was abusing his meds, which took a surprising turn at the end of the night. Here's our review of "'Til Death Do Us Part" ...

Addison wants to talk to Sam about how she is seeing someone (he doesn't know about the Pete-Addison romance), but a baby about to be born prematurely interrupts.

Pete calls an ambulance, Naomi and Addison. This week's impossible Private Practice decision (they have more per season than any show in history) is particularly tough.

The baby is 25 weeks old, everything is going wrong, and a full battery of surgeries, ventilators, and incubators will be needed ... just to give him the slimmest of odds.

Addison suggests tactfully that they don't allow it to suffer. The parents, Pete and Naomi are want to fight. Addison decides to do as they advise and operate anyway.

Sam and Maya Photo

Sam ultimately played the role of dad - not just of a guy in a suit.

Sadly, it doesn't go well and in the end, the parents come to realize she's right, a miracle simply isn't in the cards. They cry as they hold their baby for the first - and last - time.

It's moving and depressing, but at least it's realistic and well-acted.

Cooper is out to get Charlotte's new boyfriend. Not out of jealousy, he says (yeah, right), but for his Oxycontin scamming ways. He passive-aggressively rats him out (this is Coop).

When she rebuffs him (who saw that coming), he confronts the guy himself. Cooper at least convinces him to talk to Violet, where he gets snippy and reveals he has real problems.

Charlotte is still unmoved by her ex's meddling, until he messes up at work and her ass-kicking side rears its ugly head. Dude better be checking into rehab or he's gonna be fired.

At Maya's wedding (more on that shortly), Coop shows up with someone else, much to Charlotte's chagrin. But they quickly change that and "consummate" something themselves!

Wow, just like that. Are you excited for Cooper & Charlotte Round II?

Private Practice Preview: "'Til Death Do Us Part"

Thursday after an all-new Grey's Anatomy (see sneak previews), Sam and Naomi are ready to walk their daughter down the aisle on Private Practice. Well, almost ready.

As Violet continues to help Sam with Maya's wedding, Naomi refuses to take part as she works with Addison and Pete to save the life of a 25-week-old premature baby.

Meanwhile, Cooper suspects that Charlotte's new boyfriend is abusing pills. Will Naomi finally come around on the big day? Here's a promo for the emotional episode ...

Private Practice Review: "Love Bites"

Everyone's trying to figure out how they feel about each other on Private Practice. There's not one relationship you can describe simply, which is probably by design.

Naomi is starting a new romance and Addison is torn between two men. Our recap has the details of these stories and more. Now here's our review of "Love Bites" ...

William White, Naomi's boss, has been getting a little flirty with her lately. She has to give a speech about him at a fancy event. Fife is a bit uncomfortable about this.

Pete and Violet have finally turned a corner, or at least he's abandoned the idea of being mad at her. Addison and Sam ... well, even they don't know. How can we?

Before the big ball, there are a couple of cases on the medical front.

Cooper’s patient, Paige, has a bite mark. Her boyfriend says he’s walked the Earth for 2,000 years searching for a soul mate. Yup, he thinks he's Edward from Twilight.

Nae, Nae

Naomi's flirting with William didn't sit well with Fife.

Unfortunately, the 13-year-old vampire wannabe has been biting around behind Paige’s back and gave her Hepatitis. That will break up even everlasting, immortal passion.

Charlotte has a talk with Paige about heartbreak, and her words hit home, not only with the bitten teen, but with an eavesdropping Cooper. Can he finally lay off her now?

Private Practice Music: "Love Bites"

On this week's all-new episode of Private Practice, Addison and Pete did the deed (several times), even though they are both admittedly in love with other people.

Meanwhile, Naomi, Dell and Violet are moving on in their own ways. Read through our review of "Love Bites" and let us know if you liked the episode and why.

Also, visit our Private Practice music section for a look at the singles heard throughout this and other recent episodes. We've listed a couple of examples below:

Tim Daly Teases Pete-Addison Romance on Private Practice

She recently slept with Mark and flirted with Sam. He just had a baby with Violet. But might Addison and Pete still become the Private Practice "super couple" soon?

Tim Daly, who plays Pete, offers some intriguing teases about Thursday night's episode, "Love Bites," and beyond in an interview with TV Guide. Excerpts below ...

Q: The undisputed super couple on Grey's Anatomy is Meredith and Derek. Whom would you choose as the Private Practice super couple fans are most rooting for?

A: Interesting question. A year ago, I probably would have said Pete and Addison, and I may just say Pete and Addison again.

Q: You think it’s time they got it on?

A: TV romances take time. If they burn out too quickly there’s no place to go. But the spark between Pete and Addison has a good chance of combusting again.

Q: Perhaps as soon as this Thursday night?

Attraction

HEAT: How long until the Paddison passion boils over?

A: Let’s just say they have not consummated their relationship yet on the American Broadcasting Corporation. But I’m not saying they won’t.

Q: So can we assume that the hypothetical Pete/Addison love scene is one of those "less is more" scenarios or is it all out there on display?

A: Let me just say that I think the moisture level of the fans will be high.

Q: Addison has obviously slept with both Derek and Mark – and carried on a flirtation with Sam. Does all her doctor playing with associates bother Pete?

A: Oh for God’s sake, Pete can’t be worried about that. Especially not Pete, who has banged receptionists and psychiatrists. Please. It’s a freaking Petri dish on Private Practice. We’re all swimming around in each other’s bodily fluids all the time.

Q: What’s the big medical case in "Love Bites"?

A: It’s funny, oddly topical and definitely creepy. It’s about some teenagers who are living out their Twilight fantasies by pretending to be vampires.

Private Practice Music: "Shotgun"

On this week's new episode of Private Practice...

... Dink asked for permission to marry Maya.

... Sam and Addison made out - but no more, as she turned down his advances to take the relationship to a new level.

... and a couple dealt with an unfathomable situation involving their children.
