Grey's Anatomy Spoilers: Calzona and Crossover Updates

Now that we know it's not Callie and Arizona tying the knot on Grey's Anatomy - by now you've surely heard about Cristina and Owen - what's in store for Calzona this year?

Let's just say it's shaping up to be a crowded situation.

What brings Amelia and Derek - and two ABC shows - together this fall?

Arizona decides to move in with Callie, according to EW, and of course, Torres is sharing an apartment with Cristina ... who's become the anti-Cristina and is marrying Owen.

That’s not the only obstacle, either. Creator Shonda Rhimes reveals that “Some stuff happens with their careers that’s going to take them in opposite directions possibly.”

Shifting gears, we've got some dish on the Grey’s Anatomy-Private Practice crossover involving Derek’s sister Amelia as well. What brings the two Shepherds together?

James Remar Speaks on Private Practice Role

James Remar is coming to Private Practice this fall. What does the veteran character actor have to say about his character on the Grey's Anatomy spinoff, now in its fourth season?

It looks like he and Pete go way back: "He's a bad boy doctor who worked with Doctors Without Borders with Pete (Tim Daly) in the past, and we have history, obviously," he says.

"My character is a doctor who likes working for people that don't have any money, and gives his services for nothing, but some of his patients may be highly questionable."

That's ambiguous, but the cases on Private Practice often blur ethical and moral lines. We're looking forward to the return of Grey's and Practice back-to-back September 23.

A Private Practice Primer For Season Four

Private Practice began as a sub-par Grey's Anatomy spinoff featuring Kate Walsh's Addison Montgomery Shepherd in 2007, but it has gradually earned our respect since.

A successful program with strong characters and its own appeal, we're legitimately looking forward to seeing what's next from the doctors of Oceanside/Pacific this fall.

Plenty of things have happened between now and then, with the Season Three finale providing some of the most memorable scenes in the Shonda Rhimes creation's history.

Wondering where things stand heading into the fourth season, which premieres after Grey's Anatomy Thursday, September 23? Get caught up with the series recap below:

Caterina Scorsone to Guest Star on Grey's Anatomy

As predicted, an all-Shepherd crossover is in the works at Shondaland.

Grey's Anatomy's Derek (Patrick Dempsey) and Private Practice's Amelia (Caterina Scorsone) will be repairing their relationship in the upcoming season of Grey's.

Caterina, who was just promoted to series regular on Private Practice, will appear in the third episode of Grey's this season, Shonda Rhimes confirmed to TV Guide.

The premise is simple: Amelia Shepherd goes to Seattle to reconcile with her brother, Derek. The two Shepherds have not been on speaking terms since Amelia turned to drugs while grieving the death of her father, who was shot and killed in front of her and Derek.

A Solemn DerekCaterina Scorsone Pic

Derek and Amelia will reunite this fall.

"Family is family," Scorsone says. "Regardless of the strife and tension and drama between the family members, there's a connection that is so deep. Obviously Amelia has a lot of emotion surrounding Derek and that relationship and all the things they've been through together."

In an interesting twist, Amelia will be reluctant to head to Seattle to see her brother, though she'll get a supportive push from none other than Addison (Kate Walsh) to reconcile.

"There's a lot of unresolved emotions surrounding that whole relationship. Everyone can relate to that fear of confronting situations that may result in rejection," says Scorsone.

Grey's Anatomy and Private Practice both return Thursday, September 23. What are your thoughts on the Shepherds' relationship and the upcoming crossover? Discuss!

Justine Bateman to Guest Star on Private Practice

Former Family Ties star Justine Bateman will guest star on ABC's Private Practice this fall, according to Fancast. She'll play a single mother of a child diagnosed with autism.

On the second episode of the upcoming fourth season, her character has managed her son’s condition fine thus far, but new developments prompt her to seek expertise.

Some of Justine Bateman’s more recent TV credits include guest-starring turns on Psych, Californication, Desperate Housewives and an extended run on Men In Trees.

Other announced Private Practice guest stars include French Stewart and Currie Graham, who TV Guide reports will play brothers in the September 23 season opener.

Caterina Scorsone Promoted to Private Practice Series Regular

Private Practice has done the obvious and promoted Caterina Scorsone, who plays Dr. Amelia Shepherd, little sister of Grey's Anatomy's Derek, to series regular status.

"It's so fantastic for so many reasons," Scorsone told TV Guide. "Everyone is generous and fantastic, so to know that's going to be my home for a while is pretty nice."

Amelia was introduced at the tail end of Season Three, when she clashed with the Oceanside Wellness doctors over whether she could save one of their patient's lives.

"She's very complex," says Scorsone, who actually went to medical school before deciding she would rather play doctor than be a doctor. "She inspires a whole rainbow of emotions in all the people around her. She's lovable and annoying at the same time."

"She's also tough and fragile at the same time."

Scorsone has yet to work with Patrick Dempsey, who plays her on-screen brother, but is itching to, and it's only a matter of time. Why write her as his sister otherwise?

"It is a little bit intimidating," she admits.

"Just kowing how passionate people are, wanting to honor their expectations in the relationship with Derek, who is so deeply a part of people's journey on this show."

Executive producer Shonda Rhimes says the writers were already discussing a Shepherd-centric crossover. "We've absolutely been talking about that," adds Scorsone.

The 28-year-old notes: "Based on the history we've already established between Amelia and Derek, there definitely has to be some sort of encounter at some point."

As for the Season 4 premiere of Private Practice, which the cast is currently shooting, Scorsone says the story will pick up a few weeks in the aftermath of Dell's death.

"Everyone's had a little time to process and grieve," she says.

What do you think of Amelia becoming a permanent fixture in SoCal? How do you think the crossover of Big and Little McDreamy should happen? Discuss!

Brian Benben Promoted to Series Regular on Private Practice

The Private Practice cast is so crazy, Shonda Rhimes added a second full-time psychiatrist.

Sources confirm to EW that Brian Benben, who has played Sheldon Wallace for the better part of two seasons, has been promoted to a full-fledged series regular.

Benben first joined the Grey’s Anatomy spin-off on a recurring basis back in Season Two as the resident shrink at Oceanside’s rival practice, Pacific Wellcare.

But it wasn't Sheldon's counseling that endeared him to PP fans - he’s jumped into doomed romances with fellow therapist Violet and, more recently, Charlotte.

Maybe next time, Sheldon won't be someone's second choice.

Glad to see he received a promotion in any case. What's not to like about Sheldon, neuroses aside? What do you think Rhimes has in store for him in Season 4?

Private Practice Season Finale Review: R.I.P., Dell; Hello, Saddison!

If anything ever happened to me, I want you to remember, that would just mean that all the bad stuff that’s ever going to happen to you already happened. - Dell to Betsey

Voice quivering and bleeding internally, Dell's only wish for was that his little girl be happy. His death definitely made us a little choked up, as did these inspiring last words.

We're really going to miss Chris Lowell, whose character became the long-rumored fatality in last night's Private Practice season finale, "The End of a Beautiful Friendship."

While often underused, Dell was in many ways a uniquely stable influence on Private Practice. He may not be considered a core character by everyone, but he offered a lot.

His death kind of came out of nowhere, too, given everything else that transpired in the third season's gripping final episode. A number of key developments took place ...

R.I.P. Dell

R.I.P. DELL: Dude, you're going to be missed. A lot.

In the aftermath of the car crash that landed Maya on the brink of death (and unexpectedly claimed Dell's life), Sam was forced to operate on the drunk driver who cased it all.

Pete smartly lied, convincing Sam it was someone else and removing him from emotional turmoil just long enough to do his job. As for Maya and the unborn baby's condition?

Cue this week's only-on-Private Practice impossible pregnancy decision!

Maya had no feeling below the waist, and as Addison began an emergency C-section to deliver the baby, her pressure fell. If they save the baby, Maya may never walk again.

Thanks to Fife and Amelia, a long-shot procedure manages to save the baby and Maya. Tragically, it was at this time that Dell, thought to have only minor injuries, passed out.
