Adrian Pasdar has landed a major role on USA's upcoming summer drama, Political Animals. The most major role possible, really.

The actor - who played a U.S. Senator on Heroes, recurs on The Lying Game and has guest-starred on Castle (below) - will portray President Paul Garcetii, Michael Ausiello reports, the occupant of the White House who defeats Sigourney Weaver's Elaine Barrish in a primary leading up to the general election.

The character then appoints his former opponent Secretary of State. Sound familiar?

Political Animals premieres on July 15 and centers around Barrish, a former First Lady and the matriarch of a family that includes James Wolk, Sebastian Stan and Ellen Burstyn as Elaine’s mother.

Carla Gugino will also play a journalist who wants to bury Barrish’s career.
