Jonathan Rhys Meyers to Star on NBC as Dracula

by at . Comments

NBC is resurrecting another iconic villain.

With Hannibal already on tap for early 2013, the network announced yesterday it was also skipping the pilot phase and ordering Dracula to series. Jonathan Rhys Meyers (King Henry VIII on The Tudors) will portray the world's most famous blood sucker.

“It is a timeless tale with relevant, surprising twists and turns [and] the exquisite Jonathan Rhys Meyers in the marquee role,” Universal Television Executive Vice President Bela Bajaria said yesterday in a statement.

The series has also been picked up by Great Britain's Sky Living and the 10-episode opening season will focus on Dracula after he moves to London with a scheme for revenge… which will run into trouble with he meets a woman who reminds him of his late wife.

Production gets underway later this year.

What do you think? Will you tune in for NBC's take on Dracula?

they might make him into an ugly vampire

Het is fantastisch dat mijn Jonathan deze rol gaat spelen . Ik wens hem veel succes en plezier bij het maken . liefs Trees

Love JRM, and I know he's had his problems, but I'm hoping he's turning a page with this series. If this was an NBC-only project, I wouldn't hold out much hope for it, but having the UK peeps involved in it gives me a great deal of hope for the quality of the project. Crossing my fingers...

Jonathan is my favorite actor and I'm so happy to see him in another leading role! Also, I love both the novel and Gary Oldman film "Dracula." This is going to be a very entertaining show (and, for me, a refreshing change to the normal schedule full of reality television!

The creators are the Downtown Abbey creators and it primarily a British show, so I have good feelings about it.

i am thrilled for Jonathan. I think he is a fantastic and talented actor and I absolutely think this is perfect casting.

i am thrilled for Jonathan and this series. Definitely the right casting choice was made . Jonathan is a fantastic and talented actor.

Looking forward to this JRM project....he is a terrific actor...

I am so going to watch this! I love this man! Well Ian won't be the hottest vampire anymore. Johnny actually has serious resume and oh the golden globe.

I think Jonathan is the perfect person for this. He's a wonderful actor and will bring a great deal of depth to the role. I can't wait to see it!
