Army Wives Renewed For Season 7; Kim Delaney Likely Out

by at . Comments

Army Wives has been renewed for a seventh season by Lifetime, but star Kim Delaney likely won't be returning for the 13-episode run in 2013, according to Deadline. Other cast members are also in limbo.

Nevertheless, the renewal is official, Lifetime and ABC Studios confirmed today.

“Army Wives is a very special program,” Lifetime said in a statement. “It’s rare to find a series that connects with viewers and resonates so powerfully after six seasons, and we couldn’t be prouder to have it return next year.”

This was far from a given; Army Wives' Season 6 finale this summer was certainly tied up in a manner that could have ended the series altogether. Now that it's coming back, the question turns to the characters.

Army Wives Cast Picture

New cast member Kelli Williams, introduced last season in what many felt was a move to ensure a smooth transition if Delaney were to leave, will be back, along with Catherine Bell, who signed a two-year deal in May.

It's unclear if any other cast members are under agreement to return.

Delaney's departure has not been confirmed by the network. What do you think of Army Wives returning potentially without Claudia Joy? Can it survive without her, or any of the other characters?

Claudia Joy, Roxy, Pamala, Denise have been the show for 6 years, they are
the show, now with Claudia Joy gone and Roxy and Pamala seem to have moved
doesn't look like they will be in the show much, so after 6 years not sure
I Will watch any more. doesn't matter who you bring in it's not the same.

I'm glad Claudia Joy is gone. She was so annoying. I looooove roxy and Trevor though. Have them come back!

I am so disappointed in the changes. Claudia Joy ws an integral part of the show as were all the original cast. I think it is a very bad move not to leave her as a part of the show. I really cannot stand Brooke Shields so this may be the last of watching the show for me. Too many people I love no longer on the show and people I don't coming on. So ... sorry, I am just not excited to see it any more.

RIP, Claudia Joy -- and Army Wives..............

Yes, I'm also disappointed that they killed of Claudia Joy, and are bringing Brooke "not-so-talented" Shields in her stead as a pilot? Puh-leeze! Seriously, though, we have to give Lifetime credit for going beyond their usual 3-season limit -- anyone remember "Strong Medicine" and "The Division" -- 2 other excellent shows -- that were around to get hooked on, only to see them quietly disappear? It could be this move is an effort to slowly fade out yet another outstanding program -- okay, in life, and in the military, death is dealt with on a regular basis --- but, of ALL the characters -- Claudia Joy -- especially when her daughter was killed off a few seasons ago (that girl looked remarkably like Kim!) -- it's like killing off the head of a giant monster -- it would end up aimlessly wandering -- or a ship without a captain -- that's how important her anchor character was to Army Wives. I hope that Kim gets to work somewhere else very soon -- as she is an outstanding actress, and certainly did not deserve this dismissal! I also like the rest of the cast -- but, BROOKE SHIELDS? Are you SERIOUS? R. I. P., Army Wives & Claudia Joy -- I will miss you! (I'll still watch 'til the bitter end!)
