Gossip Girl Round Table: "Monstrous Ball"

at . Comments

Welcome back, once again, to TV Fanatic's weekly Gossip Girl Round Table Q&A discussion! Below, our panelists break down all aspects of this week's Gossip Girl, "Monstrous Ball."

In our Q&A session, TVF editor Steve Marsi and staff members Christina Tran, Leigh Raines and Courtney Morrison share their opinions on everything that went down on the UES.

Weigh in with your take on the following topics after reading ours!

1. Favorite quote or scene from the episode?

Christina: Best scene was when Chuck glared at Ivy up-and-down in disgust for the trash that she truly is.

Leigh: Nate to Sage: I know you're legal, but this is all way too high school for me. Burn! Go man bangs!!

Courtney: Surprisingly... Steven’s breakup with Serena. “I’m a father!” He was mature and smart about it. Just as I was starting to like him....

Steve: I enjoyed the diner scene at the end. The irony of Dan and Serena bonding over this particular sequence of events was well done.

2. Most dynamic duo of this alliance-heavy installment?

Christina: Blairena. Sure, they had some high and low moments and didn't end on the best note, but they are ultimately the most dynamic duo of GG. They always have been and always be.

Leigh: I cant even believe I'm saying this but... Dan and Blair. I always thought they were a great duo as friends and they had some good banter.

Courtney: Also going with Dan and Blair. They do make a great time and are great as friends.

Steve: Dan and Serena for their chemistry (sex tape and beyond), and Blair and Serena in hopes that they will right this ship, mend their strained relationship and end the series on a high note.

3. Worst scheme team award goes to ...

Christina: Blair and Sage! Shouldn't Blair know better than to work with Vanessa 2.0?

Leigh: Chuck and Ivy. Why is she still on the show??

Courtney: Chuck. Nothing was accomplished of his big plan to take down his Dad. He even enlisted Ivy... the only reason I didn’t pick her is because she was actually able to lie and get out from Bart pretty quickly.

Steve: Gotta go with Sage and Blair. As the saying goes, those that fail to learn from history, are doomed to repeat it.

4. Harder to believe: Sage stealing Georgina's phone, Blair as a fashion designer, or Ivy ... in general.

Christina: Ivy! By the way, how ridiculous was that scene with her rolling down the cab window to spy on Lily and Chuck?!

Leigh: Ivy in general. See my above answer. Also G was dying to release that tape anyway.

Courtney: Sage stealing Georgina’s phone. G knows what she’s got on there, there is no way she would let that out of her sight!

Steve: The phone. We've seen some amazing lost/stolen phones and other dubious electronic device plot holes in our day but that took the cake for me. PS ... @ Christina: VERY.

5. Have we seen the last of the Spences?

Christina: That's probably what everyone is hoping for but for, but I'm betting Sage isn't done wreaking havoc for Blairena. There's also no way any girl would give up on Nate Archibald so easily.

Leigh: According to sources, unfortunately no. Sage will be back.

Courtney: I'm thinking not. Steven will be done with S but Sage will find a way to get involved.

Steve: And have the show return to focusing almost exclusively on its five core characters for the last five episodes? No, that would be too enjoyable for the fans; it's definitely not happening.

6. More underutilized this fall: Rufus or Nate?

Christina: It's funny how the only way these two could get a storyline is for one to be paired up with a teen while the other is with an actress-turned-con-artist-turned-psychopath. However, between Nate and Rufus, I think we could always use a little more Nate in our lives.

Leigh: Nate. Always Nate. But I do question how Rufus is letting himself get conned so easily.

Courtney: Nate, because he is one of the core characters. Although he has had better stories than previous seasons. I don’t expect too much out of Rufus since he is an adult character.

Steve: Nate has definitely been in writer exile for a long time, but I have to go with Rufus. At least Nate's Spectator storyline, ability to sleep with every female character and general charm give him some purpose. The Season 6 version of Rufus, however, is doing nothing but eat up what little screen time the show has left.

7. Dan and Serena: Will they, should they or won't they?

Christina: They will and should if, and only if, their parents don't get back together. That's the only way I'll be down for Derena.

Leigh: I feel like too much has gone down at this point, some things can't be unsaid. I did see some underlying old chemistry at the end though.

Courtney: They will. I didn’t mind the two in the beginning of the series but I got majorly weirded out when their parents were married and they were dating. Now that Rufus has moved on to a younger model with a sexy voice... well looks like all doors are open.

Steve: Why not. Maybe being back with Serena can help bring back good guy Dan from Gossip Girl Season 1, and vice versa ... they seemed to bring out the best in each other for a time. If not, they're clearly good at turning on each other at a moment's notice, and the fallout could be spectacular. Either way, let's see what happens!

2. Most dynamic duo? I dunno, it's hard to give it to Blair/Serena, because they made up for all of five minutes before it all went to hell, and it's hard to give it to Blair and Dan because, no. I guess I'd have to say Dan/Georgina, because they're kind of creepy and hilarious and perfect together. 3. Worst scheme team- clearly Blair and Sage. I don't know how Blair keeps being outwitted by a bratty 17-year-old, maybe all the sexual frustration is rotting her brain. 4. Seriously, Georgina basically *invented* the bump-and-grab cell phone steal. No way would Sage have been able to pull one over on her.

1. Best humorous quote actually goes to Nate: "Could the weirdness be that Steven hooked up with your mom in a dungeon when you were in grade school?" And Serena's like, psh, as if.... on this show, that barely even qualifies as weird. Best overall quote is a tie, between Blair's "there's no one better for me than you" to Chuck, which hopefully lays to rest all of the irrelevant crap about who the "better man" is, and Blair's "I'd rather be with no one than with you" to Dan, because I've been waiting to hear that for like a year and a half. And after how Dan's been acting since 5x24, it was so richly deserved. Oh, and I also loved Chuck's "they say good things come to those who do", but that could be because he basically whispered it against Blair's mouth and that... was hot.

G telling Lonely Boy that the only reason Queen B was with him was because she'd lost Louis and her mind and Queen B telling Lonely Boy she'd rather be alone than with HIM. As for Serena and Dan they will and they should I think that the writers ended Rufus and Lilly's marriage so that they wouldn't be step siblings when they reunite I've thought this that since the season five finale Chuck and Blair are and always have been this shows most dynamic duo G let Sage steal her phone Blair admitted she's not a designer an unfortunately I seen pictures of Nate with Sage during the filming of the series finale Little J is going to be hired as the designer creative director of Waldorf Designs

5)We won't see Steve for a while but Sage might go stalker with Nate. He ain't one easy to give up on. (Do not give in Nate!!!!)
6)Nate. What the f@@@ happened with the ''Who's GG'' sl?
7)They will and they should. They were at their best when they were together.

1) All the chair quotes rang like music in my ears...but my favorite scene was the Derena reconnection. It was high time for Dan and Serena to find their way back to each other and i'm glad the writers are presenting it so gracefully. I was worried that after everything that went on between them, the writers would find it hard to make them getting closer seem natural...thank God i was wrong.
2)Dan and Blair. They always work great together when they're on frenemy mode.I even enjoyed Dan's dark scheme to distance Blair and Chuck...ofc if i had the slightest suspicion it would work i'd have hated his guts. But now i'm watching the show with the confidence that chair is endgame and that changes everything.
3)Chuck and Ivy...worst chemistry, lamest plan ever!
4)Sage...in general.

Why all the hate on Ivy? I actually love that her. I can't wait for her to take down Lily. Lily is by far the worst character on the show and I'm so sick of her escaping the consequences of her actions. Honestly, I hope Rufus never gets back with her because he can do so much better. Once Ivy takes her down, I'm going to laugh so hard. I just wish Vanessa would come back, because for some reason, I could see her and Ivy being the best of friends.
