Hart of Dixie Review: The Gift of a Candle

by at . Comments

Finally, after many episodes of build up, the Mayoral election was finally here in "I Walk the Line."

I will admit, honestly, that I figured Ruby was going to win the election mainly because I thought they were going try to turn her into a series regular and keep her on for as long as possible. I love Ruby and what her character has brought to the show - but now they have an easy way out if her relationship doesn't work with Lavon.

It's a shame, too. I'm very disappointed that Lavon won the race. Why? It's predictable. I was hoping for a good plot twist, I blame shows like Revenge that have me expecting epic, climatic moments.

Ruby & Lavon Go Face Off

Another thing I found disappointing about tonight's episode was the ending of George's new romance. What was the point of her if they had plans to just dispose of her immediately after?!? George gave this big speech about how he wanted to meet someone who was going to challenge him and I truly thought it was going to be her.

Then there was the ironic twist that George's new love interest is Wade's ex-wife... while Wade sleeps with his end game love interest Zoe. This is something I can get behind and enjoy. How can Wade get mad that George is sleeping with his ex when Zoe could be considered George's ex? Now, how the writers brought us to this new pairing is what bothered me.

Can Lemon catch a break? I think not. I am beyond thrilled that she has finally realized that she has feelings for Lavon and that Annabeth is now out of the picture. The end scene has me questioning if Lavon believes he made the right choice. He had that look in his eye that he wasn't sure of himself and I hope they build onto that.

A CANDLE LAVON!?? Seriously, you bought the woman a candle after everything she did for you?!? That's a big fault on the writers. If you're going to have the Lavon/Ruby/Lemon love triangle then give us something to keep it going. I'm disappointed. A candle to show his appreciation?!?

Lavon is a better character than that. I get the line "I never know what you want," but their are different ways to go about that.

One thing that I absolutely adored about was the triangle of Zoe/Brick/Magnolia. First, there was Brick acting all upset because he wasn't having any contact with his girlfriend, which was causing Magnolia to stress out. Neither knew who to run to and I am so happy that it ended up being Zoe to step in. Nothing makes me more content on this show than seeing Brick and Zoe work well together. Please let this grow and develop into an actual partnership.

Overall, this episode was OKAY. I say that kindly. I thought the idea of the chicken was ridiculous, the gift of the candle was overly disappointing, and George's short lived romance was pointless. This is probably my least favorite episode of the season thus far. I was hoping for more and for a non-predictable outcome.

To end this review on a positive note, I will tell you did enjoy two other things:

  1. The nervous banter from Lavon during the election debate.
  2. I adore Annabeth and her perfectly timed one liners and witty dialogue. You're doing that right, writers.

Now that I've talked about this episode, let me discuss the next one. In case you're new here and this is the first Dixie review you're reading from me then let me make sure that you're aware how excited I am to see McKayla Maroney on next week's installment. If you also don't know who she is, where have you been? McKayla is the gold and silver medal winning gymnast from the London Olympics. In my opinion she is also the fiercest of the Fierce Five and this could be open for debate.

McKayla will play Tonya, a friend of Rose's who comes to her defense when Rose's crush has a crush on Zoe. I also adore Rose and her noticable absence from the show has been a frustrating thing for me and I am very pleased to be getting more of her.

Until next week.

I actually thought this was a pretty good episode.
I do like Lemon now and I feel bad for her.
I totally did not see Tanzie being George's new love interest but I think it will be a good storyline. Is it supposed to be symbolic that he will be with blondes up until the day he is with Zoe? Pressley was brunette but that did not last.
I still am not sure what to think about Ruby. I wonder if her and Zoe will be friends again.
I liked the interaction with Zoe, Brick and Magnolia and I like Brick when he is not a jerk to Zoe. I was actually shocked he voted for Lavon!

I really cannot understand how anyone isn't aware of Wade and Zoe relationship. George is the most absurd: Wade throws him in the water and 10 minutes later he is asking Zoe who she slept with. Who do you think he is!!!!!! Other than that the episode was good, notmy favourite, but good!

Not really sure how you can compare Wade being with Zoe who was never George's anything to George being with Wade's ex wife...apples and oranges! Having said that, George is an ass for going down that path and I'm interested to see where it leads because it will definitely affect a lot of people. There was no mention in the review but I loved the scene where Lemon called Zoe out on wearing Wade's shirt. It would be great if Lemon was the first to find out about their relationship forcing some kind of friendship between her and Zoe because I think it would be so awkward and hilarious.

I have to disagree - I would have been pissed if Ruby won the election. I think she was doing it just to 'win' at something. She was never really shown interacting with any of the townspeople at all (besides our main characters). I have to say that I don't really like her all to much. She's just a bit too snarky for my taste. We already have that in Lemon.
I loved the last scene with Zoe and Wade. Talk about needing someone that challenges you! George is just a big goofy bore. I don't think Wade was jealous of George getting cozy with Tansy (or whatever) at all. I think he didn't like the fact that George was getting through to her and he wasn't. He didn't like that George could beat him at something. We all know that Wade has some anger directed at George these days....but George doesn't know why.
I really like Annabeth. I hope they give her a good love interest. She deserves it.

I thought this was a cute episode. Not my favorite by far, but I really needed a break from the triangle and Zoe's mess of a love life. I loved the Zoe and Brick scenes as well as Zoe and Magnolia. For once I didn't hate Ruby so maybe dating Lavon will make me tolerate her. Poor AB she really is a great friend to Lemon. I never doubted that Lavon would win. Zoe and Wade were cute and fun as always. The George and Tansy dynamic could be interesting. And yes it will fun to see how that plays out. I don't think Wade will be jealous although he will be concerned for Tansy since he does care for her. He knows that George has feelings for Zoe after all. He is sort of in Tansy's place so he would know how that feels and what it means. He won't want George to hurt Tansy.

There was a lot of things I appreciated in this episode. First, the return of Brick. I just love this character and his interactions with Zoe. Especially since their relationship has evolved, it's now sort of a father/daughter relationship, it's nice to see Brick turning to Zoe for help and confiding in her. That moment with them chatting on skype was so cute. Also, I really like the bromance of Wade and George. Even though they both love Zoe, it's nice to see they can still be friends. Though, I expect this friendship to hit it hard in the following weeks with George starts dating Tancy and in return if he finds out Wade is the one Zoe is seeing. Both of them are going to be jealous, especially Wade, we've seen tonight that he still has a very heatful and passionate relationship with Tancy.

That last scene with Wade entering the trailer gave me the creeps. I hope this show doesn't turn into gossip girl where every male and female character must be involved at one point or another. Also, I'm missing the simple Zoe/Lavon interactions. They worked so well together in season 1. Hopefully, the addition of Ruby would bring some interesting dynamic to the group. Imagine Ruby/Lavon having awkward post-morning coital brunch with Zoe/Wade. That could be a goldmine of romantic comedy moments! And I'm kinda disappointed the George/waitress girl thing lasted less than an episode... I was hoping George would finally get a real girl instead of a string of flings.

Yea, I was disappointed in this weeks episode. I dont really know why, it was just ho hum. I found myself bored with it. Not liking the idea of Wade being jealous of Tansy and George, I guess that is the Zade fan in me. I think I could go for George and Tansy, though. IDK. Kinda like Ruby and Lavon, I still dont see Lemon and Lavon together. I just dont... I hope next weeks episode is better.

I really loved this episode except for two parts: the fact that Ruby didn't get on the first bus out of town (ugh, that flirting during the debate was awful), and the idea of George and Tancy possibly being a new couple (I just do not see it, but I love the idea of keeping Tancy around. She's a fun character, and I still think she had good chemistry with Lavon and good interactions with many of the other characters.) But: Annabeth and Lemon were fantastic in all their scenes together. Brick, Zoe and Magnolia were hilarious and touching. Wade and George were great. Wade and Zoe continue to demonstrate why they are the real end game pairing of the main triangle. The chicken was pure Bluebell. Obviously Lavon was going to win the election. He's a main character and being mayor is a major part of his entire identity. They wouldn't give that to a guest character.

Hart of Dixie Season 2 Episode 6 Quotes

Though I haven't seen her face much. She's been ahead in the polls so much in the last month that I've been looking at her behind... Back. I've been looking at her back.

I just mean if I had to face someone in an election hers [Ruby] is a nice face.... To face.
