Thats the thing, the break up is not whats upsetting.
Its the way it happened that has made everyone upset. Why would anyone want Zoe to take Wade back after he has cheated on her? I know I dont.
There are million different ways that Wade could have been made to "grow up" or have a "moment of clarity" but it didnt have to be by having him sleep with another woman.. REALLY? Could he not have wrecked Zoe's car and lost her, drunkenly almost burned down his house, or something just as dramatic but with less "angry fan" ramifications.
The couple is now ruined, it will never be the same and I can not root for Zade as a couple again.

I've never commented on this site before but I felt I HAD to because I am so frustrated with the stupid writers who seem to want their own show to end.
Very disappointed with this episode and the overall writing in general. It's like they have the ingredients for something great, but the writers ALWAYS go for the laziest option. To me, it seems like the characters often act OOC. If this show doesn't improve soon, I won't continue to watch it.

The break-up needed to happen, as much as it broke my heart to watch i think it will help wade to grow up, he was known as a tom-cat in season one, now he will realise how much he has hurt himself and zoe, remember ross and rachel (friends) that went on for years and they got together in the end, i want the same for zoe & wade, im not so sure wade knew how he felt about zoe and this episode has made him realise how much he really loves her,i will keep waching HoD with the hope that zoe will forgive wade for what happened give him another chance and grow as a couple... wade is the original bad boy he needs zoe to make him the man can be.

No Marisa it did not make the viewers more passionate. It made passionate viewers HATE what the show has done and not want to watch. I now have no reason to watch anymore. It completely ruined the show for us.
Its not that Zoe and Wade broke up, its the way they did it.
I hope the writers understand they just signed the shows death certificate.

This episode killed me. The scene on the bench with Rachel Bilson and Wilson Bethel was so emotional and well done. I hate that they broke up, but I'm hoping it means Wade will try and win Zoe back in the season finale or something. I still don't know if the cheating was out of character or not: one the one hand, we saw last season when Lavon tried to help Wade get a loan for his bar, he totally self-sabotaged it, which makes this seem more believable. On the other hand, this season we saw him commit to Zoe, plan romantic nights/trips to a cabin for her, and even think about a life with her in NY. There were definitely roots for his indiscretion, but it still seems like a cheap way to make the inevitable Zade breakup come about.

I am a little surprised to see that people are so disappointed in this story line. Obviously, I love the 2 of them together, but I've been a little bored with WZ since they got together at the end of the Christmas episode (except the one where George's mom interferes). What makes Wade so fascinating is that he is trying to so hard not to hate himself in life. He expects himself to fail, ergo he has to ruin things before they may or may not end naturally. It's the classic behavior of a self-sabotaging person. I felt it was totally in line with his character development. He's always 1 step forward and 2 steps back. However, I don't think this is the end of Zoe and Wade. I expect him to mope for a couple of episodes, then beg, and finally prove to himself and her that he is a MAN, not a scared boy. Perhaps he will open the bar and that will be the signal that he has come to terms with his past (mom's death, dad's drinking, coming from the wrong side of the tracks, fancy brother,

Definitely agree that the wedding and seeing DebraJo Rupp again, Lemon and AB taking steps to mend their friendship, and Lavon trying to cheer Zoe up by insisting they dance were the bright spots in this episode. The breakup scene on the bench was absolutely heartwrenching and had me in tears also. Wilson Bethel and Rachel Bilson did an excellent job with the scene. Their emotion, pain, and tears were genuine. I am hoping for a reconciliation as quick as possible as I have been a die hard Zoe and Wade shipper since day one. I also agree with two points other reviewers have made- 1) if he has done this to Tansy before like she made it sound then why did she think about trying to reconcile with him near the end of last season and 2) being as how we have never seen him in a committed relationship before Zoe I definitely see this cheating story as extremely OOC for Wade. As an audience he has only ever been seeing as having a girl stay the night and then leave the next day. So please fix t

Ok let’s face it we all knew they were going to break up, but it was still so sad the acting was great.
My heart still hurts, I get way to into these shows!
I would be happy with Zoe being with Wade or George they are both so cute and funny that I find it had to pick one over the other, but I would like to see Wade truly better himself and win her back (I know not going to happen this season but hear hoping).
To the writers if you have a character who look so amazing naked or wrapped up in a towel then why would you make him break up with the only person who can keep him undressed! Come on!!
I loved the preview for next week the other Dr is so hot!

The writer and most commenters have pretty much summed up my thoughts on this episode. Like most, I expected a break-up, but the way in which it happened this was sloppy writing.
A valid comment made here: If Wade was such a cheater, why did Tansy want him back toward the end of S01? To me, it's just more proof that were too lazy to think up another way for WZ to break up and chose the easiest way out.
From what I've read, Wilson was quite taken aback by his character's direction, which tells me alot. Kudo's to him for making excellent work of a crappy story.

I too was very disappointed that Wade cheated..it didn't make sense for him to do so, with him being so head over heels with Zoe. Wade's tears and begging almost had me in tears. It almost makes me mad that he keeps denying himself happiness because he feels like he doesn't deserve it. I just hope the writers know what they're doing, cuz I for one have been pulling for Zade since the pilot.
George and Zoe are good as friends, and just that, and I don't like the fact that Jonah is back..yuk! It was a relief to see Lemon and AB make up, and the wedding was really the only bright spot in the episode.
I was a little confused to hear that Tansy "heard the same excuse" weren't W&T only together for 4 months..but it was nice to see Tansy and Zoe being somewhat civil to each other..
I'm still hoping for season three, pulling for Wade and Zoe... They really are perfect for each other, and hopfully they will get past this..

I don't think the cheating will get people to stop watching. If anything, from what I'm reading on this board, it seems the fans have gotten even more passionate about Zoe/Wade and the show. We've all seen shows where the characters who were meant to be took a couple of seasons before they get really commited. Don't forget there's a love triangle and they have to keep it going. Same thing they're doing whith Lemon/lavon. Personnally I am more invested in them and we haven't seen them together yet, so don't worry people the writers will get to it eventually! We waited 4 years for Caskett and Mer/Der, six years for Booth/Brennan, etc.
So people, keep watching!

I agree with most of your comments about how this is so OCC for Wade this season after all his improvement. I think a break up was coming sooner or later just because there is a triangle going on and blah blah blah. But the problem is how the writers chose to do it. I feel cheated myself but not by Wade but by the writers and LG. They ruined their best character, most liked couple and perhaps the show itself. THAT sounds like self-sabotaging to me. And the fact that most of us who rooted for them, still do (despite that cheating is a deal breaker for most of the people), proves that this was such a bad idea and really hard to buy after all we've seen in this two seasons. I bet even Wilson Bethel feels cheated himself.

This cheating business just comes out of left field, why would Tanzy want Wade back a while ago if he was a cheater!? It seems that the only reason Wade and Zoe were brought together was to please the fans and they could not even do that properly, constantly creating stupid drama out of nothing. I feel, as a loyal viewer, like I have been condescended to and now the writers and etc. have given up on this so they can create some drama before the end of the season and start back on the Zoe-George trail! I am so disappointed, they have made one of my favourite TV males unlikable by making him something every girl hates!

I think what's most disappointing to me is it's so...lazy. The weakest part of this season, IMO, has been the focus on the romantic relationships at the expense of the friendships, professional career storylines and most importantly independent/individual growth. And here they've done it again. Their break-up/conflict now isn't about their different personalities, priorities, backgrounds, goals, etc. It's about sex. They'll have to work through the physical act of cheating before they can really work through the REAL character stuff underlying it, if they ever manage to get there.

I have read that this show is "on the bubble " to be renewed next season. I have recently discovered the many websites dedicated soley to the characters Zoe & Wade. It seems like the writers are committing series suicide here! I watch this show because it's cute, quirky & fun. I like to escape from reality & be simply entertained. What a horrible, horrible let down. I just can't watch!

One more thing: there was NEVER any evidence that Wade was a cheater, even with Tansy, until this episode. We all knew he was a player and that he slept with a lot of women. A guy sowing his oats is totally different from being a cheater. If we had been given any indication of his cheating in the past, I don't think Wade would have had so many fans for 2 seasons. Tansy NEVER called Wade a cheater until this episode. Previous shows had indicated they broke up because they fought a lot. Total cop out from the writers.

For the Zade fans, there is still hope. Wade can become a better man and prove to Zoe that he won't do this again. That would take for him to admit to her the reason why he cheated in the first place. The situation kind of reminds me of the movie Circle of Friends. If you haven't seen it, rent it now because I think it would put some Zade fans at ease. The movie shows that good guys can do stupid stuff when they are drunk and that it is possible to rebuild a relationship after a person cheats. This is hardly the scenario I would like but it is possible. I hope some fans can forgive Wade and I still hope he and Zoe get together in the end.

Just finished watching the episode. The George fans are probably very happy I'm sure, but this is not the way the writers should have handled this triangle. Even if Wade hadn't cheated, it was very foreseeable that he wasn't in the right state of mind to be with Zoe right now. There needs to be more character growth and maturity for Wade to feel confident enough to know that he is good enough to be with Zoe and do more than just be a bartender. I understand that this could take 1 to 2 more seasons. The cheating is unjustifiable though. I'm sure they will lose viewers over this.

I'm with Marisa - as much as Wade may have come along way in the past season, why are you surprised that he screwed up a good thing by cheating? Look at Tansy's experience of him, for her it was no surprise at all that he would behave that way - it was even the same excuses. I think the writers have been trying hard to show the character developing but also having some regression issues and have succeeded very well. They even had him screw up the last time the possibility came up for the bar by hitting on the lady from the bank.
My perspective may come as someone that supports Zoe and George as an end game as they just make more sense to me but I still don't find it at all surprising that Wade acted as he did - more like the fall of someone who has been trying too hard to be someone else...

I'm about to watch the episode in a minute but I hate that the writers made Wade cheat as a reason for the break-up more than just breaking them up over their constant bickering. Why? Because in real life, I would never tell a girl to go back to a cheater and I want Wade and Zoe to get back together. For them to make Wade a cheater just makes it very difficult to justify Zoe getting back together with him in the future. I also dislike the fact that the writers think so lowly of Wade that they would make his character do this. I agree that it was very OCC after Wade's growth this season.
Lemon: Oh, this is about George Tucker. Because he broke up with Tansy and you think Zeorge is inevitable. No, you don't? Why not? He's finally single. She's...
