Anthony Head to Play Monarch on The Selection

Beloved for his seven-year run Rupert Giles on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Anthony Head has signed on as the elder statesman of another teen-based series.

The actor has been cast on The Selection, according to The Hollywood Reporter, coming on board as King Clarkson, the leader of the nation at the center of this futuristic pilot.

Head's character will be the father of Michael Malarkey's Prince Maxon, whose wife will emerge from a contingent of 25 women competing in a Hunger Games-like battle for his hand in marriage.

Yael Grobglas has landed the lead role in the anticipated series. She will play America Singer, a working class girl who is part of The Selection and who catches the prince's eye.

The drama, which was also in development last year but not picked up for series, is based on a novel by Kiera Cass.

I can't wait to see Anthony Head back on TV.

although I do agree that his role as Giles is his most charismatic one you should have mentioned some other important ones (like being Uther Pendragon in Merlin!)

I'm always so Nostalgic when a Buffy guy gets recruited! Giles was always so funny! and a true leader for the gang!
As I remember he played a king in Merlin as well so he will fit in well!
