Enlightened: Canceled by HBO

by at . Comments

HBO has canceled the critically acclaimed and wildly underrated Laura Dern series Enlightened.

“It was a very difficult decision,” said the network in a statement. “We’re proud of the show and we look forward to working with [creator] Mike White and Laura Dern in the future."

Aware the series may be facing its demise, Dern's Amy Jellicoe came out on top in her battle with Abaddon CEO Charles Szidon, exposing the misdeeds of his company, on the Season 2 finale.

Dern won a Golden Globe for her portrayal of this crusader, yet ratings never matched the praise heaped upon Enlightened from critics and its small legion of fans around the country.

Buzzfeed first reported the cancellation and interviewed White prior to the series finale.
