Horribly tragic news out of the television world:

Cory Monteith, the 31-year old actor who has played Finn Hudson since the opening episode of Glee, was found dead inside a Vancouver hotel room. He was 31.

Praying to a Sandwich

"We are so saddened to confirm that the reports on the death of Cory Monteith are accurate," his rep said in a statement. "We are in shock and mourning this tragic loss."

Authorities say no foul play is suspected, though the cause of death will not be known until an autopsy is performed.

Police do confirm, however, that the actor was out with friends prior to returning to his 21st-floor room at the Fairmont Pacific Rim Hotel.

"There were others with Mr. Monteith in his room earlier [Friday] night, but video and fob key entries show him returning to his room by himself in the early morning hours and we believe he was alone when he died," said Acting Police Chief Doug LePard.

Monteith entered rehab in April and missed the final episodes Glee Season 4 as a result.

In an interview with Parade in 2011, Monteith recounted his struggles with substance abuse as a teen and said he feared he "could die." An intervention was then staged when Monteith was 19, at which time he entered rehab for the first time.

We send our prayers and thoughts to Monteith's loved ones.

UPDATE: Along with other stars, Dot Marie Jones has Tweeted: "I have no words! My heart is broken. Cory was not only a hell of a friend, he was one amazing man that I will hold close to my heart forever."

glee really should be cancelled. without finn there is no rachel so without cory there is no show. they cant expect or allow lea to return after this. the only way they could do it is carry on the show without lea but i wouldnt keep watching. however if they do they can makeup a story for finn and rachel and give them the ending they should have gotten in real life :(

I heard Lea and Cory were supposed to get married in two weeks or so. If that's true then that makes this all the more tragic, depressing and sad as hell.

What Glee needs to do is honour Cory and Finn, the season premier should focus on the characters coming to terms with his passing and singing songs that they think will help them cope with the loss. For Rachel i think for her next season it should all be about over coming loss, moving on with life and trying to overcome the loss of a future that was, she shouldnt have a love interest ALL season, but by season finale maybe she begins to feel she can try again. thats just how i think it should go. thats if they go with the finn died plotline, which im guessing they will.

Glee lost me in the 3rd season, so I no longer watch it -- though I'm still a big fan of Lea Michele and follow her on twitter. What I want to say, though, is that this was Cory Monteith's break in the business and he really made his character come to life. He pulled off being a small town star jock about whom there was more. It was believable and a dramatic turning point when he stood up to his teammates and got Artie out of the port-a-john -- which was only the beginning!

I accidentally hit send. Of course Rachel already sang the song (season 2?), but she's reprised songs before (Don't Stop Believing)

A personal tragedy for Cory, his family, and Lea. GLEE has lost the character who provided the moral center of the story. From the comments of Dot-Marie and others on the show, it appears that Cory was as decent to others in life as his character generally was on our screens. Lea will move forward in her own time. As for Rachel, perhaps she can let go as Fanny Brice does in Funny Girl, singing My Man: "Oh, my man, I love him so, he'll never know."

Shit :( RIP cory!

R.I.P. Cory. You will truly be missed.

RIP Cory. All my prayers to his family and friends. It's a big lost for television and movie's world

It is a tragedy so Young with a bright future, I guess now the show is over. It would be a shame to continue with it. Fox should cancel it.

Glee Quotes

[to Finn] You know, I don't really know what's going to happen between us, but I know that you used to be the guy that would make me feel like the most special girl in the whole world, and it doesn't feel that way anymore. Now it just feels sad and confusing. And the worst part is that it doesn't even feel that bad anymore.

I'm engorged with venom, and triumph.
