Lee Thompson Young, a veteran actor who has appeared as Detective Barry Frost on Rizzoli & Isles since 2010, was found dead today at his residence in Los Angeles. He was 29 years old.

Sources tell TMZ that Young was late for work this morning, prompting his landlord to open his apartment door to check on the star and finding his corpse inside, reportedly the result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

"We are all without the words to truly express our collective grief and profound sadness at the loss of such a sweet, bright light," Tweeted Rizzoli & Isles creator Janet Tamaro not long after the tragic news broke.

Young broke into acting on Disney Channel’s The Famous Jett Jackson in 1998 and also appeared in episodes of Scrubs, FlashForward and Smallville. We send our thoughts and best wishes to the 29-year old actor's friends and loved ones.

UPDATE: The actor's publicist has confirmed the suicide, while TNT has released the following statement...

Everyone at Rizzoli & Isles is devastated by the news of the passing of Lee Thompson Young. We are beyond heartbroken at the loss of this sweet, gentle, good-hearted, intelligent man. Suicide is so sad. Not just for the victim but for those left behind. The "Why" will never be completely known. That is so difficult for the friends and family. It is normal for anger to be mixed in with the grief. The vicim had to be in a lot of emotional pain. That pain could have been alleviated with therapy and/medication if needed I wonder if this young man was seeing a therapist? I really liked his character and will miss seeing him on the show.

This is sad. I really loved his character he was funny and just a great character. I wonder how they'll deal with his character on the show. Will they kill him off or make him move away? I think they'll probably kill him off because it would be easier and they could give him a heroic death and the show could have everyone grieve like they are doing in real life.

This is just so sad. I loved how he played the character, he was a really good actor. It's so heartbreaking to think that someone who seemingly has all the options and resources in the world, would think that they would be better off dead. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends. I will miss him on this show.

Will be interesting to see how R&I deals with this...
