The pilot will be written by Alexandra Cunningham (Desperate Housewives, Prime Suspect).

While now a steady big screen presence, Spencer has appeared on such television shows as Raising the Bar and Ugly Betty. She also stopped by Mom this week and will recur over the next several Mondays on that CBS sitcom.

So... yeah. A remake of Murder, She Wrote. Can't say we saw that coming. What does everyone else think?

Did you guys see her in Mom last week? She was so funny I was laughing out loud. She should get a well-written half hour comedy or an hour dramedy where she can really spit out some great one-liners. the Desperate Housewives connection is promising, but the remakes are toast.

I agree with all of u this should not be made. I think NBC has not learned anything from the recently cancelled Ironside. What are executives of NBC thinking? And besides Jessica Fletcher was a white woman, this is politically incorrect. Shame on you NBC. Octavia Spencer is a great actress and should be doing other film projects, starring in something better not this..

Sorry i meant I "bet" she could come up with something ORIGINAL for NBC to do!

I love Octavia Spencer and think she is a great actress but come on NBC can't you come up with something original instead of rebooting old shows. Have you not learned anything from Ironside? This is a great actress give her something to work with. Why not buy the rights to some books and put those on tv instead of rebooting old shows. Octavia just wrote a book, I but she could come up with something ORIGINAL for NBC to do!

I am not a fan of this only because Jessica Fletcher should be a grandmother type. Otherwise it's like any other private citizen solving crimes show. And many remakes haven't done well (Ironside, Magnum, Knight Rider, Charlie's Angels, Dragnet, Love Boat, Bionic Woman, Get Smart). Spencer is very talented. I'd love to see her star in something she can own outright.
