Last night, Barack Obama actually referenced Mad Men during his State of the Union speech, comparing the current treatment of women in the workplace with the status of Peggy and company on Matthew Weiner's award-winning drama.
Politics and television. The two have gone together for generations.
This, of course, got us to thinking about the most memorable characters to ever sit in the Oval Office... and/or whatever they called Laura Roslin's room on Battlestar Galactica.
They've been men, they've been women, they'd had MS and they've carried on affairs with local fixers. We've listed a few of our favorites below:
1. Jed Bartlet
Jed Bartlet ruled over the West Wing and set the bar quite high for all fictional Presidents. Let Bartlet be Bartlet, people!
2. Henry Hayes
Henry Hayes sat in the Oval Office on SG-1. His portrayer, William Devane, will ALSO play the President on 24: Live Another Day.
3. Caroline Reynolds
Prison Break wasn't JUST about Wentworth Miller walking around shirtless. President Caroline Reynolds played a key role as well.
4. Fitzgerald Grant
He's certainly the sexiest President on TV, wouldn't you say? Fitzgerald Grant just can't stay away from Olivia Pope.
5. Elias Martinez
The Event fell apart pretty quickly. But Blair Underwood, as President Elias Martinez, did all he could to keep it afloat.
6. MacKenzie Allen
Her rule was not very long, as Commander in Chief didn't even last a full season on ABC. But don't blame that on any decisions MacKenzie Allen made in office!
7. Laura Roslin
She helped defeat the Cylons on Battlestar Galactica while fighting cancer. Good luck with that one, FDR!
8. David Palmer
Jack Bauer could not have saved the world with President David Palmer on 24. A stern Commander-in-Chief, he was much better than his brother at the job.
WHICH PRETEND PRESIDENT WOULD GET YOUR VOTE?
