In The Flash Season 1 Episode 3 Amell makes his first appearance as Ronnie Raymond, Caitlin's former (and believed dead) fiancé. The topic comes up while the S.T.A.R. Labs crew tries to track a new metahuman created the night Ronnie died -- when the particle accelerator exploded.

The Mist is a new metahuman with toxic gas powers. I'm guessing it's not from beans. Kyle Nimbus was arrested by Joe West years ago, and with his new particle accelerator-enhanced persona, he intends to take Det. West to task.
From the looks of things, he makes an attempt to get the job done. Joe is in the hospital! While Iris and Eddie are at his bedside at the same time, don't let that fool you. They're still hiding things from dear old dad.
