Hart of Dixie Season 4 Episode 2 Review: The Curling Iron

at .  Updated at .

Taking on the responsibility of a curling iron is a big, life changing decision. Oh wait, we're not talking about curling irons are we?

Not so much curling irons, as we're talking about babies. Yes, on Hart of Dixie Season 4 Episode 2, Zoe used a curling iron as a substitute to talk about her feelings on the surprise "Zade" baby.

Not the greatest metaphor, but I'll take it.

Zoe spent a great deal of time debating what she should do about Wade and the baby. I'm so happy she told him by the end of the episode. Stretching this secret out would be a waste of time, and, frankly, we don't have that much time available this season to prolong the inevitable.

While the curling iron metaphor was silly, it made for a nice exchange between Rose and Zoe. I've always liked Rose, and I'm glad she's mature enough to want to discuss Zoe's problems.

Zoe was unsurprisingly manic, but it provided for some truly funny moments.

Zoe: I didn't even order a curling iron. I wasn't expecting one at all, but then one just shows up in the mail out of the blue. Bam!
Rose: And you don't like curling irons?
Zoe: I love curling irons. I always figured that one day when my life was settled I would have curly hair. Just not now.
Rose: Well can't you just return the curling iron?
Zoe: Yes I could return the curling iron. It would be a totally valid choice, and I support all people who decide to return their curling irons, but I just kind of want to keep this one because it's the right manufacturer, and I love the manufacturer. A curling iron like this might be hard to come by later. I don't want to regret... Besides I have room for it in my bathroom.
Rose: I see. So you're going to keep the curling iron?
Zoe: Yes. I feel a little overwhelmed, you know, about the idea of having curly hair for the next 18 years and the rest of my life, that's all.

Wade, on the other hand, struggled to make sense of Zoe's actions. Poor guy just can't seem to say the right thing at the right time. It was very sweet how he wanted to take things slowly, but that's clearly not an option at this point. "Zade" is clearly endgame, so it's more a matter of how they are going to get there.

Maybe I'm not 100 percent sure that you [Zoe] wouldn't hurt me if we started things, but I know that I have never felt about anyone the way I feel about you. And I guess that I realized it's worth the risk.

Wade

His reaction to the big news was what I expected. He laughed because he thought she was joking, but quickly picked up on her seriousness. I just wish she had given him a chance to respond. He was clearly shocked, but I think we all know he'll step up. Having a baby was probably the last thing on his mind, but it was the same deal for Zoe.

In less dramatic, life-changing news, George and Lavon managed to put aside their differences and work together to expose Henry. Unfortunately they inadvertently ruined Lemon's chances at getting the money she needed from Grandma Bettie. I'm sure she'll come up with the money a different way, but it's disappointing to see her have another setback with Fancie's.

I'm already tired of Lavon's and George's war or whatever you want to call it over Lemon. I'd rather her just be her own woman. She's made a lot of progress into becoming an independent adult, and I'd hate to see her stuck in a stupid love triangle. I think I'm also still mad at Lavon for breaking up with Annabeth. She's adorable and he made a mistake.

Lemon and Zoe have made a lot of progress since the beginning of the series. Seeing Lemon and Annabeth support Zoe was a touching moment. Lemon may be prickly at times, but she's a good person who, whether she admits it or not, admires Zoe.

I know that you will be a good mother, Zoe Hart. A really good mother because you are tough, and you are kind, and you are smart. And if you tell anyone that I said that, I will deny it.

Lemon

At least one Breeland didn't have to deal with any fallout from their secret. Grandma Bettie actually got along with Shelby. I guess we should be glad about this. I like seeing Brick happy, and I'll hopefully warm up to Shelby soon.

I'm definitely happy Hart of Dixie is getting back to its roots. Despite the pregnancy storyline, this season feels lighter so far. Now that we're focusing on our main characters again, the storylines can tighten up.

If this does end up being the final season of the show, the storylines will need to move quickly. I don't know if there will be a time jump at some point, but it wouldn't surprise me.

So over to you guys. Do you think Zoe should have told Wade about the baby in a different way? Should Lemon just stay fabulous and single? What are your predictions for the next episode? Sound off below, and don't forget you can catch up on any missed episodes when you watch Hart of Dixie online!

You can't just have a baby in a workplace, Annabeth, because they are needy, and they are noisy, and they are so much work. Okay, you can't just drop a bomb on someone like this because a baby changes everything. Everything!
