iZombie Season 1 Episode 7 Review: Maternity Liv

at .  Updated at .

Liv's menu gets an extra side of maternal instinct after she eats the brains of a pregnant woman who has just recently given birth.

Unfortunately, besides developing the strange urge to smooth down Ravi's stray hairs, this new personality made for a less than thrilling episode, both for Liv and the case she was working.

If iZombie Season 1 Episode 7 gave us anything though, it was a cute look into Liv's family life.

We still haven't seen much of Liv's mother, and by much, I mean almost nothing at all. She's overly critical of Liv's life choices, but that's literally all we know about her personality. At this point, Liv's mother could be played by a different blonde matriarch every week, and I'm not sure the audience would even notice.

iZombie has done a good job lately of incorporating its side characters into the narrative, but Mrs. Moore is the exception.

Major, on the other hand, is flourishing in his side plot to take down The Candyman's drug business.

Well, flourishing in the sense that he's found a to-go box of human brains and now has the name of Blaine's lackey, Julien. In other regards, he's met a little bit of a roadblock. Now that he's gone and pissed off Babineaux, we can't even be sure that he'll get police help on his little breaking and entering issue.

Still, Major is one step closer to figuring out what goes bump in the night, and that will surely lead him straight back to Liv.

She might be in the arms of another though, if things with Lowell keep going in the right direction.

Lowell's interest in Ravi's rats, and their subsequent research possibilities, puts me on red alert. We've speculated on the iZombie Round Table that Lowell might be a spy for Blaine, and this new development only lends credit to that theory. If Blaine is busy making a fortune off of rich zombies, the last thing he needs is a cure popping up somewhere.

Besides the suspicious rat research, Lowell was a perfect gentlemen this week.

The perfect perfect gentleman, seeing as he consumed some brains that took any romantic activities off the table.

Liv, I didn't want to have to tell you like this but... I'm gay. But not to worry, it's only until I eat my next brain.

Lowell

Regardless, seeing Liv and Lowell have a fun night in with dancing and cootie-catchers was nice. You know a relationship can work when you've got an easy base of friendship, which is what "Livwell" seems to be developing these days.

Another week without Blaine gives me the blues, but I also can't help but feel on edge. What is he up to? How many more city officials has he turned? Will he put Evan in danger if the kid does start working at Meat Cute?

Overall this episode didn't give us much in terms of plot development. Besides Ravi's rat problem, nothing new has developed on the zombie forefront, and we're still stuck in the procedural doldrums. Some viewers might love the case of the week, but I worry that they're getting too predictable. Not to beat a dead horse, but nothing says boring like open and shut murders every week.

What do you think about the procedural element of the show? Do you think Lowell is who he says he is? Sound off in comments below!

Babineaux: I've created a monster.
Liv: Yeah, someone beat you to the punch on that.

Please let this conversation end with you cutting the crusts off a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.
