Killjoys Season 1 Episode 6 Review: One Blood

at .  Updated at .

One of my favorite things about this week's Killjoys was meeting more of the ruffians.

It was also kick ass to see characters like Hills, Turin and Fancy Lee return as part of the larger story. A major shift is taking place in the J Star Cluster and I have no doubt the last few episodes will deal directly with that. War is coming to the Quad!

For now though, Killjoys Season 1 Episode 6 was another great installment with a big emotional payoff. I'm glad Dutch came clean about Khlyen.

I really  love this cast and I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a second season.

What the hell is wrong with Khlyen? He's merciless man, killing all those people in the Keffree Tea House just to see if Dutch's skills were in tact. It's clear he trained her for very specific reasons and he's not about to let her walk away that easily. Is Khlyen connected to "The Nine" or part of an invasion force from outside the Quad? I'm still trying to figure out his true role in the story. Apparently, he's more than just a mentor.

I loved the way Dutch teased D'avin about his relationship with Pawter. The two have bonded quickly, especially after the events on the torture cruiser. The way D'avin complemented her and Fancy Lee speaking about how trio's never work seems to imply a Dutch/D'avin hookup. That's going to kill Johnny and all the progress he and his brother have made. I mean, he warned the guy "don't plow our sister." Hopefully, I'm reading more into it than I need to, but I admit the drama would be entertaining.

News of a "black warrant" came, and it sounded pretty damn important.

D'avin: Okay guys what the hell's a black warrant?
Dutch: Competitive warrant, top Killjoys only. Best team wins.
John: In other words, grab your shiniest toys and your biggest balls. You're about to meet the family.

The camaraderie among the Killjoys was terrific. Including the way Turin attempted to protect Big Joe, who was a legend among them at one time.

Though we didn't get to spend much time with the others, Fancy Lee became my favorite Killjoy this week. How badass is the guy, seriously? He understands every team needs an a-hole and he's fine filling the role. Sean Baek plays the character brilliantly and with such charisma. I'm hoping we see more of Fancy this season (and definitely in Season 2). That's right, I'm throwing it out to the universe. Killjoys Season 2 FTW!

While it was a tad disappointing D'avin brushed Pawter off - she's clearly mesmerized by him - it didn't surprise me. The guy is damaged goods and nowhere near ready for the kind of relationship she deserves. I stick by what I said though, I like those two crazy kids together and I'm rooting for them.

Anyway, the mention of Level 6 and a special training camp on Arkyn means that's totally a thing, right? We haven't learned much about the small moon yet, but I feel like this was a hint at what's to come. Will we get to explore Arkyn this season, or is that Season 2 stuff? Time will tell, there's still a ton to cover.

Every time I see Patrick Garrow, I think of 12 Monkeys. He played Cole's father and left quite an impression on me. He's great as Turin too, so hopefully we'll learn more about the character.

Turin: The company is looking hard for this ship. If they find out the thief's a Killjoy, that's bad for all of us; especially Joe. We find him first. We find him fast. This is your warrant.
Group: The warrant is all.
Turin: Oh and as a little extra inventive, the Killjoy who brings him in gets ten thousand joy.

This was the first installment where we spent some real time with Khlyen. Sure he's ruthless, but there's something more to the guy. I'm not sure he's the monster Dutch thinks he is. At least not when it comes to her. And where does he get his intel from? The neural link was a clever plot device and allowed for some pretty cool visuals.

I was surprised Dutch left the guys behind. Yes, she wanted to get to Joe first and leave them out of it. However, she should have trusted her team more with the truth. I was glad to see her come clean at the end. The three of them working together are much more formidable.

Johnny and D'avin proved resourceful by visiting the first crook we met in the pilot. I'm telling you, it was cool to see all these familiar faces tying the world together. Which brings me to the Jaqobis brothers teaming up with Fancy Lee. How sensational was their partnership? The teasing and dialog was hilarious, like Johnny calling Fancy a douchebag or the mention of Dutch's underwear and bra.

On Leith, Khlyen's hologram (if you can call it that) worked alongside Dutch to locate Big Joe. Does it confuse you as well when he calls her Yala? Anyway, she finally caught up with the guy and it was a pleasant reunion. What a shame that Big Joe was trying to be one of the good guys and it cost him his life... C'est la vie.

Big Joe: I don't want you caught up in this.
Dutch: In what? This can't be how you end your career. Legendary Killjoy, caught and caged like some kind of animal.
Big Joe: How do you think it ends Dutch? You think they throw us a parade when they take back our badges? They don't, the RAC uses us up and then they toss us aside when they're done with us. The only reason our beloved brotherhood is interested in my ancient ass at all, is because my name's on a warrant.

Things came to a head at the Kotler family compound when the Killjoys invaded the place. How crazy was it that Big Joe had no clue what the weapon was? Even wilder, was the fact Innis Kotler cut himself on it and it annihilated his entire family. A genetic bomb?!?  That's an insanely powerful weapon and clearly designed to take out high-born families like The Nine. The political intrigue continues my friends.

It's always great to see Ian Tracey as well, I still remember his first appearance on Continuum. I can't even imagine how devastating it would be to watch your family turn to ashes before your eyes. Yeah that weapon was brutal. Did Lucas enlighten Dutch on how the RAC will profit in case of a war? Alvin the scarback/resistance fighter also warned her she will have to take sides.

Though Dutch planned to trade the bomb for mercy, it didn't quite work out and Big Joe's warrant was upgraded to Level 5. I knew Dutch would never take him out, but Fancy Lee doing the deed was the right move. After all, he's the a-hole by choice and the lone wolf. I really grew to like the guy this week, he's a valuable (yet dangerous) asset to the Killjoys collective.

Pawter made a bold move attempting to locate Dr. Jaegar. Will her arrest stand or will our heroes find some kind of loophole and free her? And what of Khlyen? Dutch has declared war, but how did he survive her constant stabbing? Is he not human or does he have that much control over his pain? Now we know he's there for Dutch, but her team will deal with him soon enough.

What did you think of "One Blood"? Did you enjoy meeting some of the other Killjoys? Was that genetic bomb crazy or what? Is Khlyen after it to start a war? Is that what he trained Dutch for? Will she kill him? It's your turn guys, go ahead and sound off in the comments below.

NOTE: Killjoys Season 1 Episode 7 is titled “Kiss, Kiss, Bye Bye” and airs on Friday, July 31.
