Girlfriends' Guide to Divorce Season 2 Episode 4 Review: Rule #605

There weren't enough ego cookies to save the Jabby marriage.

On Girlfriends' Guide to Divorce Season 2 Episode 4, after spending the weekend together at Abby's house to try to determine the course of their future, the bickering and fighting led the couple to call it quits for good.

After all was said and done, I wanted to jump into their living room and cry foul. No, Abby and Jake, you didn't give it your all for Jake and Abby 2.0. Not even close. Guess you really didn't want it that badly.

But before we hit that, let's touch briefly on the other ladies.

Jo is still missing her friendship with Abby, and living next to Jake is giving her some fun interactions with him. Her drama with Zooey isn't all that interesting (as Zooey is such an odd kid, I'm sorry, I'm sorry!), but I know it's leading to Frumkus visiting, so it will eventually pay off.

I'm a little disappointed in Phoebe's storyline this season, such that it is. She made great progress last season determining who she wanted to be, yet it seems like she is perpetually stuck in that same rut. What does she want to do when she grows up. We've already seen that side of Phoebe, can't we see something new please?

Delia and Gordon were pretty entertaining searching for new houses. The more determined Gordon got to find a two master bedroom home the more it seemed he was up to something, and he was definitely pulling her leg. I hope that was a really important issue for him, because there is unlikely to be another opportunity for him to pull off a stunt like that. She'll be onto him and suspicious at the beginning of anything similar happening again.

Now for Abby and Jake.

Since he's getting ready to head off to film his movie with Joseph Gordon Levitt, Jake was really interested in spending a full weekend with Abby to see if they could hack it together. The sex is great, but anything else turns into a complete disaster.

And while yes, they do have a lot of little issues that bother them about each other that seem to culminate in one big sticking point that is, essentially, the same for both – she thinks he always makes her feel like shit, and he feels like a monkey – they are in love. Really, truly in love.

But it was no surprise at all that they decided to go their separate ways regardless, nor was it any less heartbreaking. The thing is, they DIDN'T give it their all. Abby asked Jake that through tears, we gave it our all, right? No, you really didn't.

Because they were hiding and lying and stressed in so many ways beyond the very status of their marriage, they couldn't give it their all. They missed an opportunity to save their future, their family, because they were so worried about what everyone might think and how they might be judged or frowned upon or what have you.

I'm not really sure if that's what the show was intending or if it only came out that way to me, but it didn't feel as finished as I really wanted it to feel. To have come so far and dragged it out so long and not give it a proper final end.

Ah well. I'm ready for Abby to move forward with her dates and maybe see a lot more of Harris since Mark Valley is all kinds of yummy. Unfortunately, he's come in at a terrible time. Abby has been in one relationship right after another, so what are the odds Harris will be more than a work-oriented fling? Phooey.

Did anyone else see the preview for the season that shows Abby watching someone having a baby? Is that CW Baby? Why would she be there? Just trying to guess the season from here. New spot, time to guess beyond Phoebe's prom on Girlfriends' Guide to Divorce Season 2 Episode 5!

Were you happy with the way things ended with Abby and Jake? Do you believe they REALLY gave it their all? Don't forget you can watch Girlfriends' Guide to Divorce online any time to catch up.
