The weight of the world is on Clarke Griffin's shoulders yet again.

When The 100 Season 4 Episode 1 picked up, mere moments had passed since the conclusion of The 100 Season 3 Finale. The season-long foe had been successfully defeated – but not before Commander Ontari was killed and ALIE had imparted some disturbing information about the fate of mankind.

TV Fanatics Yana Grebenyuk and Allison Nichols are joined by Lauren Busser and Samantha Coley from Tell-Tale TV, to discuss everything that went down in the explosive finale.

Roan is now (~tentatively~) in charge of the grounder coalition and demanded peace with the Sky People. How does this bode for everyone? And will it last?

Yana: I trust him, as much as you could trust someone whose loyalties have been shaky towards the Sky People. I think he is honorable in some ways, though, so if he promised peace then maybe it will actually hold up for a while.

As long as Echo doesn't get into his head too much – which I can't promise, because she doesn't seem like someone who backs down easily.

Lauren: I am with Yana. He feels trustworthy, but I also feel like the peace struck in this installment is tenuous. Roan is holding a lot of cards right now, and I think that consolidation of power is something his people will see as a threat. I feel like a peaceful resolution will only happen if Luna comes back into the fold.

Samantha: Roan is someone who will do the right thing as long as he and his people benefit from it. I feel like he'll try to keep the peace and uphold the coalition, but I doubt it will work out for very long.

Roan was banished from Azgeda for years. It'll be interesting to see if his own people actually see him as a legitimate king, let alone if the other grounder clans respect his rule.

Allison: I hope his reign lasts, because if it doesn't, well then that probably means he's going to die. I need Roan to live because I love his weird friendship with Clarke. I'm very interested to see how he is as a ruler, because we really don't know.

Like Samantha says, he has been banished for years, so it's not even clear if his own people will respect his rule. Roan being in power is definitely good for Skaikru, but I'm not sure about everyone else.

What did you think of Echo's role and her reintroduction after being gone for most of The 100 Season 3?

Yana: I think she opens the door for us to see more of the mindset that Ice Nation instills in its warriors. I could do without that moment where she might have been vulnerable with Bellamy? It might have sat better with me later on, when we knew more about her past, which we will probably learn down the line.

Once we saw that, maybe her reasoning with wanting Bellamy's trust again would have made more sense. But for now, it was entertaining with the way she might have even expected him to say that they can trust each other again. Bellamy isn't one to forget, and I think what she did to his people is still too much to forget.

Lauren: I honestly forgot about her, but she reminds me a lot of Anya from the first and second season, so I would like to see more of her. I would like how she works within Azgeda.

Ambassador: Until the new commander can ascend, Polis is to be ruled by ambassadors of the coalition. If Azgeda wants it, they must take it by force.
Echo [beheads her]: Consider it taken.

Samantha: I love Echo. I think she's a brilliant character to bring back; her history with Bellamy and with Roan makes her an interesting connection between Azgeda and Skaikru so that the links between each plot and storyline aren't resting entirely on Clarke, which I think is a huge improvement from Season 3 already.

I can't wait to see what tricks she has up her sleeve and how much power she'll have over the throne. It'll be interesting to see how her loyalties and allegiances play out this season, I think she's going to be a major player for sure.

Allison: I'm so happy to see Echo again. Like Samantha, I love her history with Skaikru and with Bellamy. I like that Bellamy sort of has a connection with someone from another tribe. Octavia and Kane have Indra. Clarke has Roan.

I'm all for developing more Skaikru and grounder relationships, especially when they aren't purely friendships or purely rivalries. I like the gray area. I'm very interested in learning more about Echo, especially considering she's a spy.

There were a lot of significant but small "couple" moments – between Clarke/Abby, Clarke/Bellamy, Kane/Abby, Kane/Indra, Bellamy/Echo, Monty/Harper, etc. Which was your favorite and why?

Yana: In no surprise to anyone ever, Bellamy and Clarke. They were back together again, but my favorite moment was Clarke thanking him.

I think there wasn't enough of that last season because a lot of the characters were against him or didn't get his reasoning, but Clarke was always that person that knew why he did what he did, even if they didn't agree.

Clarke: Thank you. For keeping me alive.
Bellamy: You don't make it easy.

We saw a bit of that on The 100 Season 3 Episode 13 when she talked to him about Octavia, but now even more so she's acknowledging how much he tries to keep his people safe, especially her.

I just really wanted to see someone thank Bellamy because I'm selfish and can never get enough of that. But a close second was the parallel I saw between Clarke/Abby and Kane/Bellamy. That family dynamic means a lot.

Lauren: My two favorites were Monty and Harper. I've been watching these two since the bone marrow extractions at Mount Weather and there was something that felt very genuine between them that I loved seeing grow over The 100 Season 3.

Watching them pick up the pieces and talk about their future was very heartwarming. Of course, this all came right before they found out that "they're all gonna die," so maybe the future that Monty was envisioning will be cut short.

Samantha: I'm going to be 100% predictable and say that my favorite moments were those between Abby/Kane, and Abby/Clarke. These are the two relationships that matter the most to me on this show, and I loved the small sweet moments they shared in this episode.

The scene between Kane and Abby manages to convey so many things without either of them really saying anything at all: forgiveness, love, and hope all wrapped into a look and a touch. Clarke smiles at them, contextualizing their relationship, being a witness and giving her blessing.

It's a great parallel to the scene between Abby and Clarke later in the episode when Abby sees the look on Clarke's face as she mourns Lexa.

Abby: I know that look.
Clarke: I loved her, mom.
Abby: I know.

Having Abby be aware of that relationship and having her show Clarke that love and acceptance and gentle understanding meant the world to me. It was a small scene, but it had a huge impact as far as representation in my opinion.

Allison: Why do I have to pick a favorite? I'm going with Kane/Indra and Abby/Clarke. Kane and Indra being friends is just one of my favorite things ever. So when they are first reunited after the City of Light has fallen, I was just relieved to see them hug it out. I need them to be friends forever.

My second is Abby and Clarke. I love that Abby knew about Clarke's love for Lexa, and how much Lexa meant to Clarke.

There's so much going on on the ground, and Abby and Clarke spend a fair amount of time a part, but that moment between Abby and Clarke shows that Clarke made time to tell her mom about Lexa, and how much she liked and then loved her.

It's also really the first time that Clarke has been able to have a vulnerable moment and accept that the woman she loved is gone. I'm glad Clarke got to have that moment with Abby.

What do you think of Jasper's storyline – particularly his behavior this episode and his near-suicide attempt?

Yana: I think it's interesting to see them not go back on that. I'm not sure how much of a spoiler alert this might be, but he was supposed to kill himself in last season's finale, so it looks like they aren't completely scrapping that idea.

Now we will see him suicidal but happy because he knows he doesn't have to do it himself: the radiation will kill him instead. I will watch to see how they portray this kind of mental state because Jasper's PTSD was treated very well last year, but it is painful to watch him go through all that.

Lauren: Once again, I agree with Yana. Sometimes shows have a really short memory when it comes to a character's history. We don't see that much in The 100 and it's refreshing to see that continuity. We saw a little bit with Raven as well, watching her give into the pain in her hip when no one was around.

As for Jasper, I was scared for him for a minute. Watching him turn on the music, set up the painting, and leave the note for Monty seemed so final. Jasper has always been one of my favorite characters, and I have really enjoyed watching him come into his own. I think that there would have been a void if he died.

Samantha: It genuinely scared me, and I don't scare easily when I'm watching television. Jasper's PTSD was handled so well in the third season (aside from him taking the chip off screen which I think was a mistake since it'd already been spoiled that he goes into the City of Light).

It was good television and honestly realistic. I think it will be interesting to see how his story plays out now that he knows the world is ending. I just hope the writers continue to handle this delicate subject with the care it deserves and requires.

Allison: I really loved Jackson's reaction to the end of the world, which is probably an awful thing to say. The radiation and impending end of the world freed Jasper of the burden of having to commit suicide.

I'm very curious to see what his mental state will be as Skaikru tries to save themselves from the radiation. I wonder how much knowing the world is ending is going to lighten Jasper's mood, if at all.

Favorite quote/moment of the premiere?

Yana: Echo telling Roan that he's weak and him cauterizing his wound like a boss. Or maybe that Kane/Indra hug, because it was something so small and yet really wonderful.

Lauren: There were a lot of boss moments, but I liked Kane's advice to Bellamy: "You turn the page. You turn the page and don't look back, and then maybe one day we'll deserve to survive."

Samantha: "I can save him, but you have to let me." Abby got sidelined a lot in Season 3, so I really loved seeing her slide back into her role as a doctor/hero in this episode.

Everyone on the Skaikru/Trikru side had complete faith that she'd be able to save Roan and thereby give them a chance to reach a peace with Azgeda. Their whole plan hinged on Abby's medical skills backing up Bellamy's diplomacy.

Allison: I loved Abby's reaction to seeing Octavia murder two grounders. As someone who isn't really a fan of Octavia's dark turn, I like that Abby is also concerned about her. There's being a warrior, and there's being a killer.

Will Clarke and the Sky People succeed in saving the world – and who will die in the process? Make some preliminary predictions for how this season will go down.

Yana: I don't want to do straight up predictions, because it could very well be a spoiler, but I don't think Jasper will make it. They've been heading down this path for a while, and I just don't see this going well for him if they do try to save the world, since he's not interested in that.

I do think they will figure out a way to either save the world or keep themselves alive, and that's all I can maybe say there. I do worry about Luna, but she's pretty strong, so I'm sure she will survive somehow. I'm also wondering where Murphy/Emori will go from here, because I do think he will return to the Sky People at some point.

Lauren: Will the Sky People succeed? I think they will, but they might need to bring a few more scientists out of the woodwork. I think Roan is likely to die and maybe Jasper, although I would prefer he didn't. I predict that Abby will probably remove a lot of skin cancer lesions as the radiation begins to rise.

Samantha: I don't know that they'll necessarily succeed in saving the world, but I think they'll find a way to survive and keep the people that matter most to them alive. I'm worried that Jasper and Bryan are not long for this world even though either/both of their deaths will make me so sad.

Predictions: Abby and Raven's science squad is going to be a crucial part of solving the 'how to survive the nuclear apocalypse 2.0."

Luna, Emori, and Echo are all going to surprise us somehow, and Kane and Clarke are going to bond over their leadership roles and their love for Abby, okay now I'm just listing things I want to happen.

Allison: I think they will succeed, but I am not sure if they will be able to save everyone. If they try to build like Mount Weather 2.0 or something, then I can see them running out of space. The ark can only hold so many people (a Noah's ark reference, not, you know, the ark ark). I'm really terrible at predictions.
