Colony Season 2 Episode 12 Review: Seppuku

Why, Hosts, why??
The Hosts were not pleased with events as they occurred on Colony Season 2 Episode 12 because the ending came as a great shock. They were obviously not witnessing the same great stuff I was.
Don't those Hosts know how to have a good time? Geez, why don't they think of the Los Angeles Bloc as an ant farm? If nothing else, the people within it must be entertaining them.
This was such an eventful hour and that it all led up to the Hosts scheduling the Los Angeles Bloc for destruction tells me a few things.
When you don't know if the show you're writing is going to be renewed, you go for broke and make it as thrilling as possible.
The finale is going to shake things up even further, and I'd expect much of what we know to be up in the air – most especially the fate of our protagonists. Will they make it out of the bloc? Does it matter?
The storyboards for a potential Colony Season 3 must be out of this world. They can keep the LA Bloc as it is in a last minute stay; they can hand over our favorite characters; they can have them all running together...the possibilities are endless and depend on what showrunners think will keep the show on the air.
Oh to be a fly on that wall.
No matter what the issues at hand, I have faith that if we get another season, and we better, it's going to be off the charts.
It's taken us a full two seasons to finally find out what drives Broussard. Imagine what else is out there. We know next to nothing about Helena.
Broussard has been carrying an aching heart since 2014 when he was forced to do the wrong thing. Well, forced probably is the right word, but if he had made a commotion about what happened to get innocents killed (I picked up that much), they would have quieted him and moved on.
What was the point?
Broussard is always so stoic and has looked to Katie to help him make a lot of decisions about the resistance. It's not that he doesn't know what's right or how to make the best choices. I don't think he has trusted himself.
Meeting Karen and seeing the way she operated did him a favor. She was a bit of a monster.
Broussard: That woman is a plague. She'll burn this bloc down without a second thought.
Katie: She lost a child.
Broussard: Exactly. Which is why she'll keep provoking the occupation until they go nuclear, which is probably what she wants.
Katie: So what do we do?
Broussard: Take back the gauntlet. And wipe them all out.
On that one, bringing up the fact Karen lost a child had no meaning to me. She lost her "child" the moment she made her into a prostitute. Karen gave her child to the resistance, and when Frankie died, she decided to live fast and large with the lives of other people's children.
Not cool, Karen.
She must have been similar to the kind of person Broussard was up against in 2014. Or fighting with, perhaps. Something about Karen and the way that was going reminded him of his past, and he was willing to sacrifice himself to stop the madness.
Honestly, I was pretty damn shocked that Noah was leading the way on so much of the raid of the theater.
Not only was she not a genuine part of the team, but her protection seemed paramount, for the very reasons Morgan pointed out after Noah was dead. Although, I'm glad Noah died and wasn't one of those crazies who was going to keep taking bullets and plowing through.
When she was hit first, I thought, "Uh oh. Girlfriend isn't good at this street level fighting." And I was right.
Another stunner was what she revealed about her operation outside the colony.
Will: These are bad odds. Are we really gonna risk our lives for that thing?
Noah: That "thing" is a gamechanger.
Will: OK. Why?!
Noah: We have a Rap.
Katie: What?!
Noah: One of them defected and doesn't believe in what the rest of them are doing. Our Rap just needs the gauntlet to tap into their communication. It's the only thing we're missing.
The reactions out of Katie, Will and Broussard weren't nearly what I expected. I would have been all over Noah with questions. What does it look like? What doesn't it like about how things are going down? Did it take off its suit? How did it talk to you? WTF, Noah, you can give us five minutes worth of details before pressing on!
Instead, they just collectively did a "huh" kind of thing and then carried on with their plans to retrieve the gauntlet. If I was smacked with that kind of information, I would have needed the five to process it.
I don't know that I could have gone out shooting and trying to take down an entire theater full of people knowing how much I didn't know about one of the Raps.
As soon as the drones appeared and skipped over Broussard to kill the Red Hand group, I knew he was safe, much like Will was going over the wall.
Morgan: Thank God you're alive.
Broussard: I shouldn't be.
Katie: What happened?
Broussard: I got the Hands to chase me to the roof. Then the pinned me down. I dropped the tracking device. The drones showed up and opened fire. Shredded everything.
Will: Except you.
Broussard: Yeah. One of them came down, closer than you are right now, just stared at me. And then it just flew away.
Will: That happened to me, coming back to Santa Monica.
Katie: Maybe it has something to do with that file you found in the Black Jack's car. Maybe you're both on some kind of special list?
Katie made the connection between the information in the vehicle and coming away alive. I wonder if that will also play into the finale.
What will being an exception mean when it comes to total rendition? I admit it's been a while since I've studied history, and my memory is foggy. Did the Nazi's have an exception list? Did they hold back those they felt useful from the camps, or if not the camps, from the gas chambers?
It's hard to imagine how the drones would round up the exceptions from the general population, though, if it all goes down in a short time period.
Snyder, meanwhile, was still being Snyderish.
Snyder: To Nolan -- Who shot for the moon and finally got it.
Helena: You're bad.
Much like a Lannister pays his debts, Snyder continued keeping his promises by setting Maddie free after a rough day. I don't recall any promise from Snyder of payback when Nolan initially screwed him over, but it wouldn't surprise me if he made one.
I was surprised to learn Snyder didn't know about the LA Bloc basically being a death camp. Even though that news should have ruffled his feathers, he sucked it up and continued working on behalf of Helena throughout the hour.
Then again, nothing Snyder does is for anyone really, unless it's for himself. He's a grander version of Nolan, because he works better with others and doesn't care about impressing the ladies.
Nolan was a snake in the grass, but he has a teeny tiny beating heart in there somewhere.
Maddie: What do you think's gonna happen to the bloc?
Nolan: Nothing good.
Maddie: What about us?
Nolan: Depends upon the choices we make, I guess.
Maddie: What do you mean?
Nolan: We live in a moment filled with tough decisions. Sometimes those decisions can seem selfish, but we're just doing what we need to do to survive.
What made me laugh was how he screwed Maddie and then screwed her over, but to drive his point home, he then wandered around with sex hair all day. What the heck was that all about? Nolan is usually well put together.
Was that, in addition to putting Hudson on a bus to keep him safe, to show he was as disheveled inside as he was out? Maybe not the worst guy on the bloc, but definitely not the best?
I don't know what the point was, but it was enjoyable.
Maddie is out and walking free, but a tad downtrodden. She fought very hard to ride that horse, and it galloped right over her. She even wondered if The Greatest Day was real. I wonder how she feels about Nolan's first wife now. Kind of icky, even though she was no prize, either.
This was an hour that dug in and never let go. It was pure adrenaline from start to finish and worth every second. What do you think is coming next? How is Colony Season 2 going to end??
The stakes are higher than ever and it's likely the Bloc is coming to an end, even if only by transitioning the people to the factory for nothing but fuel. Will they even make it that far? It's thrilling, but in a way that has me wringing my hands with worry.
