Gotham Season 3 Episode 20 Review: Pretty Hate Machine

Okay. That was a lot of show to digest, but Gotham Season 3 Episode 20 was one hell of a penultimate episode!

Gotham jumped off the deep end this hour, and I absolutely love them for it.

Bruce Returns Home - Gotham Season 3 Episode 20

There is so much to talk about, where do we begin?

Let's start with the return of Fish Mooney. There was no doubt that Fish would make her return, but how she found Penguin is anyone's guess.

All that matters is that she found Penguin just in time because The Riddler (Don't call him Ed) was pretty serious about making sure Penguin would die this time around.

Even though it breaks my heart that Penguin and The Riddler are at odds, I loved every single scene they were in together.

They are the ultimate enemies. Much like Tabitha and Barbara are about to become (how about that turn of events?).

I loved that Penguin refused to give in to Ed's desire to be called The Riddler.

Out of everyone, Riddler really needs to hear it from Penguin. That would be the ultimate validation for him, but it may never come, at least not this season.

This is quite the gathering. You have to love Gotham. People are always pointing guns at each other.

Fish

Who knows what Fish has planned for Penguin? She's not going to kill him, not after he let her go at the beginning of the season.

Maybe, in the end, all the villains will come together to save Gotham. Wouldn't that be awesome?

Maybe it'll be like last season when the bad guys and the good guys worked together to save Bruce from Galavan and his crew.

Something has to happen because everyone in Gotham is about to lose their minds as the virus spreads. It's not going to reach the villains because they're out in the country somewhere at Ivy's place.

The big question is how it will affect Alfred and Bullock. Will they lock themselves up?

From the previews, it seems the virus is going to make Bruce think he can fly. I can't believe he's going to become Batman so soon.

I hope this isn't the way he becomes the savior of the city, but that he uses this experience once he's cured of the virus and the brainwashing.

Alfred: What has he done to you?
Bruce: He has lifted the burden of my past, revealed my true destiny. Gotham must fall by my hand.

It's possible there was no brainwashing, but I believe it. Otherwise, he wouldn't have gone after Alfred the way he did.

But there are questions about why he hesitated. I could understand once with the Talons, but twice?

Shaman obviously didn't do too good of a job if the kid was still hesitating at key moments. Maybe it's good news and just means it'll be easier to reverse everything that happened to him.

Lee, please, please, in the name of all that is holy and not insane, tell us where he is.

Bullock

I can't believe Jim took the virus, but I guess he had no choice. Unfortunately, even having Barnes-like strength, he couldn't stop the bomb.

He did try, though, and that's a good sign that he hasn't gone completely off the deep end. Not yet, anyway.

But you have to wonder if he even survived the blast considering he was right at ground zero. I know it was a blasting bomb, but there still might be repercussions.

I'm not sure how I feel about Lee and her crazy self. I like her as a villain, but how long will she stay that way? Once they find a cure, well, she's cured. Right?

But that makeup. Heavy blue eye shadow? Maybe she'll just stay evil even after she's cured. Could she be our Harley Quinn?

Out of all the storylines, hers was the weakest, but at least she did something useful by making Jim infect himself, adding another nice layer to all the craziness.

I'm glad it's going to be a two-hour season finale because I don't think I could stand having to wait two weeks for all the goodies. There is a lot to resolve!

What did you think of "Pretty Hate Machine"? Were you surprised the bomb went off?

What will happen to Penguin? Will Bullock save Jim? Will Alfred save Bruce? Will the villains save Gotham?

Riddler: Eh, Butch. I knew that your hand was made of lead, not that your brain was as well.
Butch: Cute.
Riddler: Thank you.

What we saw today, them executing their own? They're zealots capable of anything.
