Alex was kidnapped on Supergirl Season 2 Episode 19!

Kara and Maggie were forced to put aside their differences and find a way to work together to save her from certain doom. 

Below, TV Fanatics Jim Garner, Christine Orlando, Steven Ford, Kathleen Wiedel, and Yana Grebenyuk discuss the "Supergirl" defense, Lena's new partnership with Rhea, and Sanvers finally saying those three little words.

What are your thoughts on the "Supergirl" defense? Should Supergirl stick to aliens and other supes and leave the human criminals to the police?

Jim: Clearly there is a fine line. But had the SWAT team stormed in and broken the guy's arm while subduing him, he wouldn't have much of a defense either.

Also, doesn't working for the DEO help her not be labeled a vigilante? Given she's employed by a government agency, it seems like there wouldn't be much to a "Supergirl" defense.

Christine: A defense attorney’s got to earn his keep. However, I do think Maggie had a point. Supergirl doesn’t need to rush into every situation. At times, Kara needs to realize that her way may not always be the best way.

Steve: I feel she should do what she can when she can, no matter if they are aliens or humans. However, she definitely needs to work on not being so quick to act without thinking the situation through.

Kathleen: Alas, there have been far more frivolous arguments than the "Supergirl" defense that have somehow worked in a court of law. With Supergirl, it's a far more complex issue than one might think, though Maggie's frustration is definitely understandable.

Supergirl does have a tendency to rush into situations without necessarily considering the consequences (especially to other people) thanks to her particular set of superpowers. Wanting to and being able help are all well and good, but it's just as important to know when and how to help.

Perhaps she should consider training with civilian first responders to improve their ability to work together and protect lives.

Yana: I agree with everyone above me. Kara has powers that help her in specific situations but there comes a time when she might need to take a step back and take orders on how to approach.

Where do you see the Lena/Rhea partnership going? What are your thoughts on their mother/daughter dynamic?

Jim: I sadly think it will end up no place good. I know Kara was worried about Alex, but seriously she couldn't take the five minutes to talk to Lena, seemed a bit selfish.

Christine: I hate where it’s going because I do think that Lena is a good person at heart and she’s getting played. Jim is right; if Kara had taken a couple of minutes to talk to Lena, who was obviously struggling with something, this disaster in the making could have been avoided.

Steve: It seems like it's heading down an obvious path to nothing good. However, I'm hopeful Lena will realize what's going on and end up severing her relationship with Rhea before it's too late.

Kathleen: Lack of communication kills, folks! It's just so frustrating to see such obvious problems built up when the whole problem could be solved if people just talked to each other. That's not to say that this sort of thing is altogether unrealistic, but that doesn't make the situation any less irksome.

As for Lena herself, it's not surprising that she would latch onto Rhea as a substitute maternal figure, even though (or perhaps especially because) Rhea is Bad News. Like Steve, I do hope that Lena does figure out that Rhea is altogether too similar to her mother and puts a stop to Rhea's plans.

Yana: I don't think Lena is actually going to let the partnership get that far. She will figure out that Rhea isn't a decent person and will reevaluate. But the worst thing on a show is definitely lack of communication that creates such conflict, mostly the kind that frustrates us because we see how it gets to that point.

Did you think Maggie and Kara worked well together? Did you find yourself siding with one or the other?

Jim: They did work well together, and they both had points where they were right, so it goes to show that communication is key to any great team-up!

Christine: I was Team Maggie for a lot of this story. I think Kara generally believes her way is the right way and doesn’t listen to other opinions because with her superpowers she doesn’t have to.

But they both had times when they were making the wrong decision for the right reasons, and I’m just happy they figured it out together in the end.

Steve: I can understand both sides, however, I'm siding more with Kara. If Supergirl is there and can take care of an issue, let her do it. They're both on the same side, but have different methods. Like Kara said, in the end the bad guys get put behind bars and that's all that really matters.

Kathleen: As I suggested in my response to the first question of this Round Table, it might be a good idea if Kara got proper training in this field if she really wants to help people in more than just extraterrestrial emergencies. Good intentions are wonderful. Good intentions backed by good training are much better.

Maggie was absolutely right in the beginning that Kara should have asked. Presented herself to the incident commander, "I'm here, what can I do to help?" instead of just rushing into a situation. That way, she could have her cake and eat it, too.

Yana: They did work well, I didn't expect it in the beginning but by the end I think I really started to love that kind of partnership.

Jim: Soooo adorable. I love these two more and more every week! I'm wondering how long it will be before Maggie is working at the DEO in some form. Or rather, in a more official form, since she seems to be able to roam all over the place now.

Christine: These two are one of my favorite couples on TV and their I Love Yous were really sweet. It only made me eager to see more of them.

Steve: Finally! I've been waiting for that moment. Great way to top off the hour.

Kathleen: As relationships go, the one between Alex and Maggie has been enjoyable to watch as it's grown across the season. Their confessions of love for each other were really heartwarming.

Yana: It was really wonderful and I hope we get to see even more of these two. Give me all the relationship milestones!

What was your favorite quote or scene?

Jim: I have to go with Maggie and Alex's reunion. They were so cute and heartwarming!

Christine: I loved Maggie and Alex talking about all of their firsts yet to come while Alex was still being held hostage. I can’t tell you how badly I’d love to see them pick out a dog together and name her Gertrude.

Steve: I definitely enjoyed Alex and Maggie as well, but I also enjoyed J'onn impersonating Rick's father. Nice attempt, even though Rick saw right through the ruse.

Kathleen: For me, it was Alex's defiance while being held hostage. "When I get out of here, I will END YOU!" You go, girl!

Yana: Maggie and Alex, I just can't choose anything else.
