The Last Man on Earth Season 4 Episode 14 Review: Special Delivery

at .

The Last Man on Earth delivers an average and somewhat uncomfortable episode, but it ends with an exciting promise for the rest of the season!

On The Last Man on Earth Season 4 Episode 14, Todd puts a lot of pressure on Erica about the baby she agreed to have. Melissa tries to bond with Erica to thank her for helping Todd, but she is unsuccessful. Meanwhile, Carol discovers something that could jeopardize the group's safety.

snooping through Erica's stuff - The Last Man on Earth Season 4 Episode 14

As a person with severe second hand embarrassment syndrome, this was not easy for me to watch.

Between Melissa's attempts to be friends with Erica, Carol's bag of feces, and Todd being an awful person, I was uncomfortable from start to finish.

There is a lot to unpack so let's start with Todd.

He has always been my favorite character. I have always loved his spirit and his capacity for love.

This time, though, I was ready to smack him. His behavior towards Erica, who has agreed to do something life-changing for him, was appalling.

He had no right to go snooping through her belongings or to tell her how to live her life.

I'm just going to come out and say it! You know, if I were trying to get pregnant, I wouldn't be guzzling wine at every turn like a teen at a hootenanny.

Todd

I know he cares, but he was overbearing and out of line.

If Erica agrees to try this again, he should be incredibly grateful.

I would have broken the arrangement right away.

Melissa awkwardly bonds - The Last Man on Earth Season 4 Episode 14

As uncomfortable as it was to watch Melissa's sad attempt at female bonding, I was constantly giggling when she was on screen.

January Jones played the awkwardness to perfection.

I was watching through my fingers at her interactions with Erica while laughing, but I also felt really sad for her.

God! I just feel so close to you! We've been friends for awhile now, but I think now it's time for us to be friends friends, you know?

Melissa

She clearly has trouble bonding with others, especially women as we learn later, and I imagine that is only made worse by the awkward situation she is in with Erica.

This woman is having her husband's baby. That cannot be an easy thing to experience, even if you do not want to be a mother.

I wanted to reach out, hug her, and give her a few tips on how she can naturally bond with Erica.

Jones balanced all of the emotions so well.

Todd gets help from his friends - The Last Man on Earth Season 4 Episode 14

Continuing our discussion of the uncomfortable, Tandy and Carol brought back the masturbatorium for Todd.

The room was complete with pictures of various men like Albert Einstein and Donald Trump that Carol drew for him.

It was painful to watch the masturbatorium scenes when it first appeared on the show.

Carol and Tandy giving Todd tips and helping him produce his product was too weird, even for this series.

I had to pause the show when Tandy was rubbing the lotion on Todd's hands because I just could not handle the embarrassment I was feeling.

That paired with Tandy waiting outside of the room for Todd to finish was more than I ever needed to see.

The density. The sheen. The crumb. This is an adult.

Carol

Carol's bag of human feces was also my least favorite plot in a long time.

I cannot say I'm too surprised that is what she discovered, but I may have liked it more if I was not already feeling uneasy because of the other plots.

I have been known to laugh at this show's easier fart and poop jokes in the past, but this was gross.

I'm excited about who left the surprise for the gang to find, but I wish they would have revealed that someone was nearby in a less disgusting way.

A Strong Female Friendship - The Last Man on Earth

Cleopatra Coleman was a delight throughout the entire episode.

Her performance is always entertaining, but she was especially great during her scenes with Melissa.

The way she incredulously reacted to Melissa's awkwardness had me laughing hysterically.

Are you here to get me to have a pillow fight or something?

Erica

I love when Erica gets more time in the spotlight. Often, she and Gail are background characters while the other members of the gang get the A storylines.

Coleman is a talented and charismatic actor, and she deserves more opportunities to be the focus of the series.

Todd and Tandy - The Last Man on Earth Season 4 Episode 14

Overall, "Special Devliery" was just average. I was too uncomfortable to fully enjoy it, but it also gave us plenty of funny moments and lines.

More than anything, though, I am excited for the return of Mike!

Jason Sudeikis is always a joy to watch, especially in scenes with Will Forte.

Based on the preview for the next episode, the brothers' reunion should be fun to watch.

I am not so patiently waiting for next Sunday so we can see Mike again!

Were you as uncomfortable as I was with certain parts of "Special Delivery"? Are you excited about Mike's return?
