Animal Kingdom Season 3 Episode 10 Review: Off the Tit

at .

Mama Smurf reigns again.

It didn't take long for Smurf to get her boys all lined up in a row on Animal Kingdom Season 3 Episode 10 even if she did have a little bit of help from DCFS and Billy.

Craig never got out of line; Pope tried it for a while but turned to mush because of Lena's situation, and even Deran's plan of breaking away got derailed.

The only one who still seems to have a chance is J. Surprisingly.

Deran Gets a Dose of Reality - Animal Kingdom Season 3 Episode 10

Deran thought he had it all figured out, and he did -- until he let Billy get in his head. Smurf might not have had anything to do with the blossoming relationship between Billy and Deran, but she definitely had everything to do with its ultimate destruction.

She knew exactly how to play Billy, and she used him to get Deran back in line. But it's not all Smurf's fault. Deran is smart enough to know that Billy couldn't be trusted, but his desire to have a relationship with someone other than Smurf was his downfall.

Deran barely knew Billy, and he should have been more careful. It was stupid for him to open the safe in front of Billy especially because the guy was so agitated about his cut of the weed heist.

But Deran is a trusting guy so why would he think that his own father would steal from him after he gave him a nice wad of cash? Deran wasn't thinking straight then, and he wasn't thinking straight when he went to Smurf.

Smurf Has a Proposal - Animal Kingdom

He should have gone to Adrian to unload like he did earlier. If he had done that he wouldn't have had to hear the story about Billy ransoming him for drug money when he was a little boy.

It's probably a true story, but with Smurf, who knows what's truth and what's not? Smurf knew that it was the right time to feed into Deran's vulnerability and a story about a dad that never was hit Deran right where it hurt most.

You stop sucking on her tit, your balls might drop.

Billy

Smurf is an evil bitch, people. And for her to make that comment about some people not being fit to be parents was unbelievable. She needs to look in the mirror.

Deran's life as an independent is over, and it's heartbreaking. Deran's whole story is heartbreaking, but it's his own fault.

It didn't quite turn out how I thought it would. I knew that eventually, he'd be back in Smurf's grasp, just not this way.

Pope should have drowned the bastard in the pool. Had he done that, it would have saved Deran some pain.

I'm disappointed in Pope. As much as I thought Lena would be his way out, it turned out that Lena was his downfall. Pope tried so hard to control himself at the DCFS, but he was too emotional. He couldn't help himself because he has never known how, and that's because Smurf has always held the strings.

For a Ride - Animal Kingdom Season 3 Episode 10

There is no way in hell that Smurf learned all that information about Lena in such a short amount of time. It's possible, but like she did with Deran, Smurf preyed on Pope's vulnerability to bring him back in line.

The minute Pope's head hit Smurf's chest, I knew it was over. He'll never break free from his mother. Ever.

How could these guys fall apart so quickly after Smurf got back home? How could they let themselves fall into her trap so easily?

Being the parent of a son, I understand the bond between mother and son, but Smurf has messed with these boys' minds so horribly that her presence is like a black cloud.

It's almost like she's hypnotized them.

J, surprisingly, hasn't fallen under her spell yet. He's been playing a game all along, and it appears he actually does have a plan. Smurf knows he's up to something, but she doesn't know what.

Some people just aren't meant to be parents.

Smurf

The problem with J is that Smurf couldn't to work her magic on him the way she did with her other boys. J's mom protected him from Smurf for good reason.

I'm not sure if I like the partnership between Mia and J. I don't trust Mia, but J has no one else. He needs to be careful, though, because Mia has no loyalties. She's out for herself, and it wouldn't be surprising if she turns on J if she doesn't get her way.

It's entirely possible that Mia may go to Smurf if she thinks she'll get a better deal.

Billy Confronts J - Animal Kingdom Season 3 Episode 10

So, the ultimate showdown is going to be between J and Smurf. That's how it was always going to end up. But now that Smurf has the others back on her side, J is going to have a tough fight.

Billy: You think it's right that I have to wait for my cut on the job.
Craig: It's not my call.
Billy: Of course it's not your call. They keep you on a tight leash. You're like the family pet.
Craig: You're a dick, Billy.
Billy: Every family's got one.
Craig: The hell you talking about, man?
Billy: A floater. The turd that just won't flush.

And after what she did to Marco, I'm not sure if I'd want to get into a scuffle with her. Still, more power to him just for thinking he can beat her at her own game.

Over to you.

Are you amazed as I am at how easily the boys fell back in line with Smurf?

What's Frankie's deal? Why is she staying behind?

Will J be able to outsmart Smurf? Do you trust Mia?

Was Smurf lying to Pope about Lena's foster parents?

Were you surprised about Renn's announcement? Can you see Craig as a dad?
