9-1-1 Season 2 Episode 6 Review: Dosed

Guys, I can never unsee that stiletto!

The unique calls on this show never get old and really set this show apart from other dramas. In this hour alone, we had an insect-eating contest, a shoe protruding from a someone's cheek, and a bodybuilder stuck in a bicep curl.

And on top of all that, the firefighters were unknowingly drugged. Yes, 9-1-1 Season 2 Episode 6 truly had to be seen to be believed.

A Difficult Day - 9-1-1

The whole concept of a television crew following people around on the job isn't new, but it was an awesome excuse to hone in on the characters and see how they react to being put on display.

For the most part, everyone relished the spotlight, except for Bobby.

There's a playful side to Bobby that comes out when he's with Athena, but at work, Bobby is as straight and narrow as they come. The last thing he wants is someone poking and prodding around his firehouse or when they're on a call out on the streets.

Taylor: Captain, we'd love to get some words from you.
Bobby: Okay, here's a few: Stop pointing that camera at people who are in distress. The people we serve have to feel like they can trust us and can be honest with us, otherwise, mistakes get made.

It was pretty clear to everyone but Buck, apparently, that Taylor was looking for a come-up and to do that she needed to get the best possible story. So if that meant sticking her camera into the face of the man who couldn't unflex his biceps, then that's what she was going to do.

Bobby Fights - 9-1-1 Season 2 Episode 6

Knowing that Bobby was struggling, I became increasingly worried that she was going to find a way to exploit his tragedy for the sake of her career. But things went in a way I never saw coming.

Did these beauty queens shrink or are we suddenly giants?

Buck

The team drugged up on LSD was pretty hilarious -- at first. Buck and Eddie were particular standouts, as they couldn't possibly fathom where they were or what was happening. Seriously, go back and watch that whole scene and zone in on Eddie's face. You can thank me later.

It was all fun and games until Bobby began to see Brook and started opening up to Taylor about his late daughter. I'm guilty sometimes of forgetting all the pain and grief that Bobby carried in 9-1-1 Season 1 because he does such a good job of appearing to have it all together.

But he does shoulder a lot of hurt and regret, and those feelings can really creep up on you, especially when you're in an altered state of mind.

Buck & Athena - 9-1-1 Season 2 Episode 6

One of the best things the show did was pair Bobby and Athena together because they just work. Athena related to Bobby in a special way, and she listens, absorbs and provides feedback in a way that isn't overbearing or judgmental.

Bobby's admission after using the drugs that it felt good could have gone an entirely different way if Athena was less understanding. Their relationship continues to flourish, and if this show decides to throw them a monkey wrench, I'm going to be really sad!

Elsewhere, Maddie had her own problems as she moved into her new place but was still plagued with fear from the years she spent in her abusive relationship with her ex-husband.

We haven't gotten a ton of backstory in regards to Maddie, but the brief images of her shell-shocked on the floor with a battered face were enough to tell me that what she went through was brutal.

Her conversation with Sue was somber but hopeful because Maddie is a fighter, and she has made it to the other side. Jennifer Love Hewitt has been a real treat this season, and she's at her best when she allows her face to tell the story.

And can we talk about her chemistry with everyone? She had it with Athena, and now I see a little spark with Chimney. All we need is my dream trio of Athena, Maddie, and Hen becoming best friends, and all my 9-1-1 dreams will be fulfilled!

Loose Ends

  • Someone else shed a tear when Bobby took a picture with Athena's family besides me, right? I am beyond glad that the Grants have embraced Bobby so lovingly because Bobby deserves it.
  • So what would actually happen if a whole firehouse was high on LSD? I can't imagine you just get a slap on the wrist even if it was a complete accident.
  • Was this the first episode without an Abby mention? That's all well and good except it comes the week that Buck decided to flirt with Taylor. I'm not a fan of that pairing at all! Can't we bring back Ali from 9-1-1 Season 2 Episode 3?

Alright, guys, the floor is now yours! What did you think about "Dosed"? Are you enjoying the relationship between Bobby and Athena? What did you think about the calls? Do you want to see more of Maddie's backstory?
