FBI Season 1 Episode 5 Review: Doomsday

at .

Things got heavy with radioactivity quickly on FBI Season 1 Episode 5! Between radioactive murder victims and OA and Maggie risking exposures themselves, it had everything I could have wanted in an episode and then some.

What the hell kind of drill was that? Then the alarm went off for real, and they expect me just to trust that it isn't another drill?

The dead body, though, was a pretty good indication that things at this plant had gotten a bit more than real.

Maggie: Wait! Wait, I want to see her face.
Plant Owner: Don't get too close. She's radioactive.
Maggie: How did that happen?
Plant Owner: There was a problem with the fuel pools last night.
Maggie: Fuel Pools?

Wow, the guy in charge of the plant is a complete jerk. His plant is under investigation, and one of his employees is dead with their body being radioactive.

That would be more than enough for me to cooperate with the FBI and not be a smartass.

First the guy in charge of the plant, then Garret. Besides the fact that I instantly thought he was guilty, his attitude kind of made me want him to run away so Maggie and OA would have an excuse to tackle his ass.

Also, what the hell was with Valerie? Her friend is murdered, and she thought it would be a good idea to go to her friend's apartment?

Then she leaves the door open and acts surprised when Maggie and OA enter the apartment. Not the smartest of moves.

Did I miss something along the way with Maggie and OA? They act like they have just met and don't know anything about each other, yet they work together seamlessly and investigate as if they've been doing it together for years. I'm confused.

A Possible Leak - FBI

The fluidity of the partnership could be because of the leadership of both Jubal and Dana.

They run a tight ship and demand the absolute best of their agents. Something made easier when the two top agents are two of the finest the FBI has to offer.

But how could they not under the flawlessness that is Jubal? I love Dana, but I think Jubal is the glue that keeps this team together. The way he has a different method of working with every individual agent shows his level of expertise and wide array of skills.

I love the way that Jubal and Kristen can end each other's sentences and create a seamless profile of the main suspect.

They both added important points while hitting all the necessary targeted bits of information and never overlapping one another.

Jubal: Ladies and gentlemen, meet the impressive Jake Fletcher. Nuclear engineer and one of our ten most wanted. Charged with disclosing top-secret government documents claimed as a crime of conscience. Kris?
Kris: Fletcher, Jake. Ph.D. Was a resident inspector at Arrowpoint. Then, three years ago, an internal investigation was initiated into coworker claims that he became paranoid and abusive.
Jubal: Report confirmed that he created a toxic environment. He was fired six months later. Fletcher claimed he was set up because he wouldn't stay quiet about problems at the plant. He then released classified documents online.

OA has proven time and time again that he has a scary amount of information stored in his brain. But multiple instances in history of radioactive poisoning was a whole new level of impressive. I loved the bit of comedy it added to the whole situation.

Seeing Maggie and OA on different sides of their latest problem and the motives behind it were interesting.

They can't always agree on everything. Things between them will probably actually end up stronger because of the disagreements.

Jubal: Alright, so a murdered investigator and her fugitive boyfriend tried to sabotage a nuclear power plant. It didn't work.
Kristen: Got an APB out on Jake Fletcher.
Jubal: He'll pop his head up.
Dana: Hopefully before it's too late. Alright, what do we know about whistleblowers?
Maggie: Well, we know they get attacked from every side.
Dana: Friends, even family turn against them from the fallout. They feel persecuted.
OA: Persecuted? He dumped state secrets to the public.
Maggie: Sometimes the public needs to know.

But nothing beats watching OA and Maggie in action when they are in the interrogation room. There isn't any deciphering between a good cop and a bad cop as the two have perfected the art of flowing from one to the other in perfect sync.

Dana always seems to side with Maggie, and I'm not sure how I feel about that.

While Maggie is a great agent, it just seems like Dana is quick to dismiss OA's ideas in favor of whatever Maggie has said. She doesn't even take the time to think about OA's words.

Dana: Fletcher felt he was doing the right thing and was punished for it. So what is his endgame?
Jubal: Uh, well, could just be ego. He sounded the alarm on nuclear safety, so a catastrophe proves him right.
OA: I'm telling you, it's revenge. Now he works with the other side.

A deeper look into all the characters is becoming necessary.

There have been enough episodes now that I should have a really good idea of what both OA's and Maggie's motivations are for doing the jobs they do and why they are so passionate. But I have nada.

While I know very little about Maggie and OA outside of their working together, I know absolutely nothing about Jubal, Dana, or even Kristen. It's hard for me to invest in characters about which I know absolutely nothing.

I want to know what Jubal goes home to every night or if he has a wife. What about kids?

How the hell did Kristen get in with the FBI and more importantly, the technical side of the New York office? She seems extremely young, and I want to know how they found her.

It was great to finally hear a little more on Maggie's husband and how he died. Not only did it give insight into why she thinks the way she does, but it also provided a bit more reasoning on why she keeps herself so closed off.

But that isn't an excuse for everyone else.
