TV Ratings Report: The Flash Tops The Gifted

The CW's fall season got underway Tuesday night with the returns of both The Flash and Black Lightning, and there was erosion for both shows.

The Flash kicked off Season 5 with a 0.8 rating. That premiere figure was down three-tenths vs. last season's debut, but it was right on par with the superhero drama's Season 4 average.

The positive news is that the series managed to top Fox's The Gifted in the demo. The Fox drama had a 0.7 rating.

As for Black Lightning, its second season got underway down 50 percent from last season's launch (0.4 rating vs. 0.8).

The true test will be whether these dramas stabilize because most shows have continued to dip this fall.

Lethal Weapon dived a tenth with the increased competition to a 0.7 rating.

Over on NBC, The Voice was steady with last week's 1.8 rating, while This Is Us slipped another tenth to a 2.3 rating.

The new drama, New Amsterdam continued to drop, slipping two-tenths vs. last week's fast affiliate result. It posted a 1.4 rating.

It really needs to level off here, or there's a chance NBC will replace it come midseason with one of the dramas waiting in the wings.

Over on CBS, FBI slipped two-tenths to a 1.0 rating out of a 1.4 from NCIS. Like New Amsterdam, FBI needs to level off at these levels, or it's also likely done.

ABC's coverage of the American Music Awards was down 25 percent to a 1.8 rating. These figures mark a new low.
