Magnum P.I. Season 1 Episode 8 Review: Die He Said

at .  Updated at .

The past came back to haunt Magnum on Magnum P.I. Season 1 Episode 8, but this time around the result was much happier.

It has to be tough for Magnum (or anyone for that matter) when mistakes are deadly, but if you don't try, then what is the point?

In the Helicopter - Magnum P.I. Season 1 Episode 8

Magnum may have defied a direct order from his commanding officer to save a fellow Navy SEAL, but he didn't want to watch one of his own die. Unfortunately, not only did the SEAL die but so did the doctor he and his team went to get to do the saving.

When Magnum was contacted by William to find his brother for a bone marrow transplant, the way things were playing out was eerily similar to that dusty day from his past where two lives were lost.

Magnum wasn't the only one who felt it. TC and Rick did, too.

But this time, the three were going to do their best for a better outcome.

It's sad that William hadn't tried to contact his brother until he was nearly at death's door even if his need for a bone marrow transplant ironically ended up saving his brother as well.

Had he not hired Magnum to find his brother, Bobby probably would have ended up dead.

Family arguments sometimes make no sense. Misunderstandings and petty jealousies can be blown out of proportion causing family members not to talk or see each other for years.

Bobby and William had one of those kinds of misunderstandings, but instead of trying to work it out, they just went their separate ways.

Think of all the time lost between them. William wasn't there to see Bobby get married. He missed opportunities to have memorable experiences with Bobby's son.

And while it might be better late than never, that's time they will never get back.

At least there was a happy outcome because it didn't look too good for Bobby for a while.

Magnum is a genius at figuring out solutions for any problem which is why what happened during the war with Bruce and the doctor bothered him so much.

He thought he had found the perfect solution, but he had failed.

He was determined not to disappoint William, and when he learned of Bobby's predicament, he wasn't going to disappoint Bobby or his wife or son either.

And it's interesting that the more we learn about Magnum's past, the more we understand his thought process as he solves his cases.

And as we delve more into his past, we also learn more about why there is such a strong bond between him, TC, and Rick.

Brother On The Run - Magnum P.I.

The way they trust each other without question is admirable -- even back during the war. Something has to be said about TC and Rick risking their military careers to help Magnum's cause.

It hasn't changed after all these years, even if there have been hiccups along the way.

Not everyone is lucky enough to have friendships like theirs.

One day maybe Higgins and Magnum will have that strong of a friendship.

They're making progress as each day passes, and, although they might not realize it, they rely on each other a lot more than they think they do.

Reliving a Nightmare - Magnum P.I. Season 1 Episode 8

What would Magnum have done if he didn't have Higgins and her specialized tools to help with this case or any case for that matter?

Solving cases might be a lot more difficult for Magnum than they are now.

And Higgins trusting Magnum to be faithful to his promises shows how much respect she has for him even if she smarts off to him more often than not.

The sassiness she shows towards Magnum might only be a defense mechanism.

Yeah, I'm heading down that path again, but all that sass could be a way for her to distance herself from her true feelings towards Magnum.

If you want to read something, Magnum, why don't you try a book? Mr. Masters has plenty of good reads. Perhaps, you can even find a short one with some pictures in it to amuse yourself.

Higgins

He certainly seems to enjoy the sass. He might even find it sexy.

Higgins had no doubts that Magnum was going to find her necklace, but the big mystery wasn't where it was found, it was who gave her the necklace.

She didn't give up the information to Magnum, but that doesn't mean he's going to let it go.

If I remember correctly, Kumu said something on the beach about the necklace being from Robin Masters, but if it was from Robin, why wouldn't Higgins have told Magnum that?

Whoever "R" is, Magnum will get to the bottom of it sooner rather than later.
