Supergirl Season 4 Episode 22 Review: The Quest for Peace

at .  Updated at .

A great episode concludes a political, divisive, and explosive season of Supergirl.

Don't you love it when storylines come full circle making a questionable season worth watching?

Lex Luthor enacted his maniacal plan on Supergirl Season 4 Episode 22 only to lose to yet another Kryptonian.

Secretary of Alien Affairs - Supergirl Season 4 Episode 22

Supergirl meant it when she said that truth and justice always prevail.

Though a glossy cape and perfect hair sure do help.

Lex willingly hurt hundreds of people and betrayed a whole country in his efforts for world domination.

But still, I should have known Kryptonite alone could never kill Kara Danvers. Her heart, however, makes her weaker then Kryptonite ever could.

Lex Luthor

Yes, it was fun to watch Jon Cryer in the role, and he exceeded expectations, but Lex had it coming.

However, by the end of the episode, we're all asking, "is Lex really dead?"

Killing Lex Luthor with one bullet seemed a little too easy, even if his sister, Lena pulled the trigger.

That's Disgusting - Supergirl Season 4 Episode 22

For a moment, I was shocked that the series would get rid of Lex so quickly and on such a permanent level.

Instead, the final few seconds saw the return of The Monitor, who we saw on the crossover "Crisis on Earth X."

After Monitor brought forth one of Supergirl Season 5's newest villains, J'onn J'onzz brother, he visited Lex, and it seemed like his intention was to revive him for some unfinished business.

I think Lex needs to be revived solely for a proper Superman duel; it would be a shame if they didn't utilize Tyler Hoechlin for something so epic.

Let's Do This - Supergirl Season 4 Episode 22
A piece of advice to the Monitor -- aligning with Lex Luthor is a huge mistake. Just ask all those people burned by him on the finale!

Lex only cares about himself and disposes of people when they no longer serve a purpose.

Case and point: Ben Lockwood, Eve, and Red Daughter.

Even President Baker falls into the category.

Me & My Miss - Supergirl Season 4 Episode 22

All of them learned what is what like to be chewed up and spit up by Lex.

I'm surprised that President Baker was even allowed to make Lex the Secretary of Alien Affairs. Wouldn't someone in the House or the Senate halt the President?

Despite Lex's one "heroic" deed, he's still Lex Luthor.

Take That - Supergirl Season 4 Episode 22

People don't just forget all the things he's done, no matter how stupid he believes the public is.

After the Red Daughter completed her mission and "killed" Supergirl, she came face-to-face with a wildly different version of "Alex."

Lex belittled her and siphoned her powers to fuel The Claymore, which was set to turn Argo and Superman into a "blazing inferno."

Honestly, I feel like Lex Luthor went through all this trouble to kill Superman even though he was on a planet billions of miles away.

His obsession knows no bounds.

Just Like Your Cousin - Supergirl Season 4 Episode 22

Lex Luthor's plans were so batshit crazy even his devotees weren't down with them.

You know it's bad when your psychopath of a mother tries to poison your tea to stop you from getting too diabolical.

Lillian is always a treat, but she was especially enjoyable in this scene. Never underestimate mommy dearest.

Distraction - Supergirl Season 4 Episode 22

Lex's plans were much bigger than just becoming Secretary of Alien Affairs, killing Supergirl, and blowing up Argo and Superman -- he was going to siphon alien powers to be used and sold like "supercharged disposable batteries."

Lex Luthor is like the evil version of Elon Musk.

I'm all for revolutionizing energy worldwide but not at the expense of innocent aliens in the process.

The Red Daughter was able to redeem herself by coming to Supergirl's aid and saving her life during the final battle.

I'm Supergirl Season 4 Episode 22

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seemed like Supergirl absorbed Red Daughter's powers, and when they became one, it allowed Supergirl to take down Lex Luthor much more easily.

If that's the case, everything that happened to the Red Daughter leading up to this moment was worth it.

But I do wish we had a bit more time with her after she'd turned on Lex.

Lex Luthor: Eve. This country, this planet. It's nearly ours. Can you feel it?
Eve: Ever since the moment I met you.

She had so much potential as a character.

And does this mean Supergirl gets double the powers from here on out?

Seeing Lena Luthor make the conscious choice to rid the Earth of her brother was powerful.

I Came Prepared - Supergirl Season 4 Episode 22

For a split second, Lex didn't have the slightest hold over her.

She was 100% sure of what she had to do, and then, like clockwork, he began preying on her insecurities.

When he began talking about "family" and pulled up footage of Kara, my heart sank.

Red Daughter: You betrayed me. You betrayed Kaznia.
Lex Luthor: What can I say? I'm proud to be an American.

Lena has always deserved to know Kara's secret, but she doesn't deserve to find out like this.

And goddamn, this isn't Lex's secret to tell!

In true Lex fashion, he spun it in a way that made it seem like everyone she trusted -- Kara, Alex, Brainy, James, even Lillian -- lied to her and mocked her for not being in the loop.

In reality, we know that this has been weighing hard on Kara; she doesn't want to tell Lena because she doesn't want to betray her trust and lose her friendship.

Truth and Justice - Supergirl

Sadly, Lena has already accepted the negative version of Kara's decision to withhold the truth.

That kind of wound is undoubtedly going to fester over the summer hiatus, and I'm afraid that Lena may become the show's next villain as she leads in her brother's footsteps and makes good on the Luthor name.

It would be such a shame if all the progress she's made was undone by Lex's last attempt to hurt his sister and curtail her success.

Harun-El Extraction - Supergirl Season 4 Episode 22

If he's calling the people who knew Kara's secret and didn't tell Lena "fake friends," he should include himself in the category because just like everyone else, Lex knew and even had proof!

The fact that Lena attended the victory game night and played it cool is worrisome.

The way she said she'd "always" be with Kara almost sounded menacing.

After the big battle at Shelley Island, which made up for the lame face-off between Supergirl and Red Daughter on Supergirl Season 4 Episode 21, things fell into place almost too perfectly.

It's Over Now - Supergirl Season 4 Episode 22

Kara saved the day using the power of writing, just as she'd intended at the beginning of the season.

Luthor assumed people were stupid and would accept injustice since that's what they were spoon-fed in the media, but he quickly bit his tongue.

Alex and Kelly made it pretty clear that they were smitten with each other. See, I told you the writers were trying to push this friendship into the romance department!

Lex Luthor: As another world leader once said, "I don't see why men shouldn't be as cruel as nature."
Lillian Luthor: Try not to quote Hitler in public, dear. It'll hurt the brand.

And even Brainy and Nia cozied up after he finally regained his memories and told her that he loved her.

It almost felt like the quiet before the storm.

And the storm is coming with Leviathan.

I'm not too familiar with Leviathan so please share your knowledge/theories with me!

This Is Twisted - Supergirl Season 4 Episode 22

Whoever unleashed Lex Luthor onto the world is also responsible for Leviathan.

And they are also responsible for possibly blackmailing Eve Tessmacher!

When Eve begged the strange woman who stopped her at a bus stop to let her go since she "did everything they asked" and even hurt people for Lex, it became evident that she may not have been Luthor's side-kick out of her own free will.

But what does this group/ society hold over Eve?

While the world was crumbling, Lockwood couldn't put his hatred aside for Supergirl.

Taking down Lex would have been a lot quicker had they all worked together.

You and Me - Supergirl Season 4 Episode 22

Hilariously enough, Lockwood was most upset about Luthor taking his Secretary of Alien Affairs gig, a gig he didn't earn on his own merit, might I add.

Oh, Lockwood.

His priorities have been all sorts of screwed up from day one, and they cost him his wife, his family and his freedom.

I love that his son saw the error of his father's ways and didn't repeat them but instead, found his voice and called for unity amongst humans and aliens.

After James and Alex successfully extorted the Harun-El from Lockwood, he became powerless and locked up.

James was also restored to his human self and earned an eye-patch in the process.

How Long? - Supergirl Season 4 Episode 22

Something tells me that eye patch is going to play some role in James' superhero/ possible villain evolvement.

Brainy got restored to his factory settings, but seeing the potential with Brainiac and how brilliantly Jesse Rath carried the role makes me think we'll be seeing more of his "alter ego" next season.

And just when I thought J'onn redeemed himself for being a coward while his planet got destroyed, the writers introduce his brother who is bound to bring back the pain of the past that Jonn has been trying so hard to overcome.

Lex Luthor: How are you alive? How did you do it?
Supergirl: How did you think I did it? I'm Supergirl.

Alright, TV Fanatics, I'm turning it over to you.
