Cameron Boyce, Beloved Disney Channel Star, Dies at 20

Sad news out of Hollywood this weekend.

Beloved Disney Channel actor Cameron Boyce has passed away at just 20 years old, according to ABC News.

His death came in the aftermath of "an ongoing medical condition," according to the outlet.

"It is with a profoundly heavy heart that we report that this morning we lost Cameron," a spokesperson for the family told the website.

"He passed away in his sleep due to a seizure which was a result of an ongoing medical condition for which he was being treated."

"The world is now undoubtedly without one of its brightest lights, but his spirit will live on through the kindness and compassion of all who knew and loved him."

"We are utterly heartbroken and ask for privacy during this immensely difficult time as we grieve the loss of our precious son and brother."

"From a young age, Cameron Boyce dreamed of sharing his extraordinary artistic talents with the world. As a young man, he was fueled by a strong desire to make a difference in peoples' lives through his humanitarian work," said a Disney Channel spokesperson.

"He was an incredibly talented performer, a remarkably caring and thoughtful person and, above all else, he was a loving and dedicated son, brother, grandson and friend."

"We offer our deepest condolences to his family, cast mates and colleagues and join his many millions of fans in grieving his untimely passing. He will be dearly missed."

Boyce is probably most well-known for his role on the Descendants film series in which he played the role of Carlos.

Boyce's first on-screen role was in the 2008 horror movie, Mirrors. He played Michael Carson. He followed that up in the General Hospital primetime spinoff, General Hospital: Night Shift.

His breakout role came in the form of Jessie, in which he had a series regular role on Jessie from 2011-15.

But the Descendants has proven to be a ratings success, and the third movie is slated to premiere on the cabler on August 2, 2019.

It's unclear whether Disney will stick to the premiere date or delay the launch in the wake of Boyce's death, but given how close the movie premiere is, it's fair to say that all of his scenes were filmed before his death.

The actor was also a philanthropist, helping to raise over $27,000 for the Thirst Project, which helps to bring clean water to underdeveloped countries.
