9-1-1 Season 3 Episode 6 Review: Monsters

Halloween always brings some stranger than usual emergencies.

On 9-1-1 Season 3 Episode 6, there was a crow attack, a literal house of horrors and an oblivious woman driving around with a man in her windshield.

And on top of all that it was Buck's first day back at the 118.

Administering Help - 9-1-1 Season 3 Episode 6

It was a given that Buck was going to come back to a chilly reception, but apparently, Buck didn't get that memo.

He was eager to be back amongst his peers and ready to jump into the action, but Bobby (and Eddie) were still harboring some animosity towards Buck and the actions he took with the lawsuit.

For Bobby, he seemed to be hyperfocused on feeling like Buck wasn't ready to be back on duty. And he's felt that way from the start.

Bobby: He just, he doesn't think things through. He acts, reacts, and that leaves the rest of us to have to deal with the fallout.
Athena: Yeah, and the hurt feelings.

Buck has a powerful personality, and there are times when he doesn't know how to get out of his way. But his instincts, his aggression, and his fearlessness are all the things that make him such a valuable firefighter.

Mysterious Girl - 9-1-1 Season 3 Episode 6

Even though they had their moments of anger with Buck, it was Hen and Chimney that were most welcoming to him and provided him with the best advice.

In both Hen and Chimney's backstory episodes, we saw them struggle to be accepted at the firehouse and struggle to be considered part of the team.

It may have been under different circumstances, but they related to what Buck was feeling, they sympathized, and they helped. Those are the best things a team member can do for another.

Eddie, on the other hand, was having a difficult time accepting Buck back into the fold, but Buck pushed the issue to the point that Eddie had to talk to him.

The Buck and Eddie friendship is one of the best things on the show, and they always knock their scenes out of the park, and this was no exception.

Eddie was able to express his disappointment with what he perceived to be Buck's selfishness and Buck was able to explain himself while also offering a heartfelt apology.

Hopefully, Buck keeps inquiring about those bruises on Eddie's elbows and takes notice of his sensitive ribs so he can help Eddie deal with his pain.

Lena meant well when she introduced Eddie to the world of fighting my dumpster fires, but Eddie looks awful, and he's suffering physically. He needs the support of his friends right now, and not the sting of a jab.

Briefing The Officers - 9-1-1 Season 3 Episode 6

Maddie was continuing her friendship with Tara under completely false pretenses, and it eventually caught up to her.

Maddie: I spent a lot of years trying to be the perfect wife. Then I realized one day that I deserved better.
Tara: So you left him? Good for you. I can't imagine that was easy.
Maddie: Yeah, leaving is always scary. But I am proof, there's always a way out.

When Chimney first made the comparison between Maddie and Doug, I wasn't buying it. Doug befriended Chimney for nefarious purposes, while Maddie befriended Tara to try and help her.

But just because their intentions were different, it doesn't mean what they were doing was any different.

They were both lying to gain trust, and that's never okay.

Ready To Help - 9-1-1 Season 3 Episode 6

It had the makings of a storyline that was going to play out for a while, but it came to a bit of an abrupt end when Tara proved herself to be a pretty good sleuth after a chance meeting with Maddie and Chimney.

Maddie made a lot of sense when she tried to reason with Tara, but she wasn't ready to hear what Maddie was saying. And she may never be ready.

Everything Maddie did came from a good place, and for that, she can't call herself crazy, but it's probably for the best that she goes to see a counselor. She's still healing and she will be for a very long time.

All the emergencies this hour were gripping, but the man lodged in the windshield will go down in history as one of the most bizarre storylines this show has ever tackled.

Bizarre Calls - 9-1-1

Having it play throughout the entire episode was a cool tactic, but you had to suspend disbelief the longer and longer it went on because there is just no way a woman could be driving around with a man sticking out of her windshield for two days and not get stopped.

I don't care if it is Halloween.

There's just no way there weren't multiple phone calls placed to 911. And there's no way the cops would be so incredulous as to think that people were making it up.

Cool Eddie - 9-1-1 Season 3 Episode 6

Having Buck swoop in to save the day, and show Bobby that he was truly ready to be back on the team, was a fitting end to a bonkers emergency.

Loose Ends

  • Poor Chimney has the worst poker face.
  • The crow following Chimney all episode was cute. And having him bring back his nametag was equally cute.
  • That Halloween party Athena and Bobby were setting up looked like so much fun. Can we be invited?
  • How many children were in that house? And the parents? Thank god the one girl was able to get free and Athena followed her instincts to that house.
Something Amiss - 9-1-1 Season 3 Episode 6

Another Halloween episode is in the books and I'm ready to hear your thoughts!

Are you glad Buck is back with the team?

Was Maddie in the wrong with the Tara situation?

9-1-1 Season 3 Episode 6 Quotes

Bobby: He just, he doesn't think things through. He acts, reacts, and that leaves the rest of us to have to deal with the fallout.
Athena: Yeah, and the hurt feelings.

Eddie: This is weird. I see crows all over the city. Never heard about them attacking anybody.
Hen: And that's because crows are very docile. They don't attack unless they're provoked.
