Mr. Robot Season 4 Episode 3 Review: Forbidden

at .

A full hour about the origins of Whiterose would have been worthwhile.

At the top of Mr. Robot Season 4 Episode 3, it seemed like that's what we were getting, but this show loves to play with expectations.

Whiterose didn't have the best start in life. She was desperate to be herself and take her relationship with the man of her dreams public.

Who's in There? - Mr. Robot Season 4 Episode 3

Whiterose coming out to her lover about her true identity was a difficult scene to watch, primarily because it seemed like her lover was going to reject her because that's not the person he fell in love with.

People can only live a lie for so long before their true feelings come to the forefront.

It's unhealthy, but the pair tried their hardest to have whatever semblance of a happy life they could.

The suicide at the wedding was quite surprising, but Whiterose didn't understand the severity of his pain.

Say Yes to the Dress - Mr. Robot Season 4 Episode 3

He was about to be forced into an arranged marriage and didn't know when or if he would still be able to make time for Whiterose.

Living that lie any longer was not worth living, and that's why the man decided that the best way out was to murder himself.

I don't want Elliot to be my prisoner. I want him to be my partner.

Vera

Might this be why Whiterose is dead-set on creating another reality? It certainly begs the question.

Could there be a happy ending for someone who has gone to such great lengths to screw up the world and swoop in to take the spoils of war?

She was undoubtedly in a reflective mood when she said that Price could get his resignation as CEO as well as his meeting with Deus.

One Last Scheme - Mr. Robot Season 4 Episode 3

Was this a rare act of good will from Whiterose because she was thinking about the life that was stolen from her?

The reasoning behind it certainly changed when she was asked questions by the woman who seems to want to keep the mission in focus.

Bringing the Deus group together this soon into Mr. Robot Season 4 leads me to believe that their reign of terror is going to reach dizzying heights.

There's no telling what's going to happen, but we do know that Elliot, Darlene, Mr. Robot, and Tyrell will work together to get the result they need.

BD Wong as Whiterose - Mr. Robot Season 4 Episode 3

Elliot and Mr. Robot went to crazy lengths to get the Deus one-time key. Olivia was an innocent bystander who got caught up in the mess, and it was difficult not to feel for her.

She was battling a drug addiction and ran the risk of losing joint custody of her daughter. Even though Olivia would have been a small amount of collateral given what is going on, it would have been dark for Elliot to fully sell her out.

We will not wait for them to make a mistake. We will force them into one.

Whiterose

Elliot has been compartmentalizing and not letting anyone into his head. He's had an ice-cold demeanor since Angela's death and feels like letting people in will bring all of his emotions back.

Olivia and Elliot had so much in common that it was inevitable that they would find themselves getting close to one another.

Fighting Back - Mr. Robot Season 4 Episode 2

Elliot felt horrible about sleeping with her just to get the key, but he also recognized in the aftermath that he could let people into his life again.

The chances of Olivia wanting anything to do with him when she gets fired are slim, but we can dream, right?

Mr. Robot doesn't strike me as the show to give characters happy endings. In all honesty, if Dom, Darlene, Elliot, and Tyrell survive the series, they will probably find themselves locked up for many years.

Speaking of Tyrell, his stupid blunder at the close of the hour not only showed his hand, but it implicated Elliot as well.

Her Own Truth - Mr. Robot Season 4 Episode 2

For now, we're being led to believe that Whiterose is listening to their conversations. The truth is, somebody is, but there's no telling whether it could be someone else.

The only reveal that would suck is if it's Vera. The drug kingpin is back and is more fascinated with Elliot than ever.

His drug business is booming, and for some strange reason, he wants to partner with Elliot. Could you imagine Elliot becoming someone who sells drugs? I sure can't.

Let's get back to Tyrell because what the hell was he thinking? A part of me thinks Tyrell is too smart to pull that trick.

Train Trek - Mr. Robot Season 4 Episode 1

Elliot could have read about Tyrell being installed as CEO of E-Corp online and then tried to find a way to confront it. Thus, Tyrell could be the third personality in Elliot's head.

It's a stretch, but there's no telling what's really going on. We should get more answers on Mr. Robot Season 4 Episode 4, which will hopefully pick up in the immediate aftermath of "Forbidden."

Which brings us to Darlene. She feels all alone in the world, and Elliot seems to think that making up the rules is the best foot forward.

Darlene is trying to take down this clear and present threat, but she doesn't want to feel like she's not getting any input in the missions.

BAK Tall - Mr. Robot Season 4 Episode 1

As part of this team, she should be kept in the loop about plans and get a say into how they are carried out.

Elliot isn't the only brains behind this operation, and the sooner he realizes that, the better.
