Riverdale Round Table: Why Did Hermione Take Back Hiram?!

at .

Archie created an arcade inside the gym, Betty made Charles take a lie detector test, and Hermione rekindled her relationship with Hiram on Riverdale Season 4 Episode 6.

Below, TV Fanatics Meghan Frey, Becca Newton, and Jasmine Peterson debate Charles' secret relationship with Chic, Toni and Cheryl's cover-up of Uncle Bedford's death, and Mr. Chipping jumping out a window after Jughead told him the truth of the Baxter Brothers book series.

Archie reached out to Hiram for help in getting rid of Dodger, but Hiram initially declined to help. Was Hiram behind Dodger's attack or could it be someone else?

Meaghan: The way that Hiram answered Archie it almost felt like he was giving the answer he would need to incase Archie was wearing a wire. I do believe that he was behind the attack, which leads me to think that Archie will find himself in Hiram's debt.

Becca: It was Hiram. Even Archie could connect the dots and realize it was Hiram, maybe.

Jasmine: It was totally Hiram. And he's going to use it to leverage Archie. Or it was someone else who knew about the beef, but he's going to pretend like it was him because that's what Hiram does.

Tainted Love - Riverdale Season 4 Episode 4

Hermione reunited with Hiram after all the drama they put each other through. Why do you think she went back to him?

Meaghan: Hermione can't be dumb. She has to have something up her sleeve. Maybe she is getting close to him so that she can finish the job and take Hiram out once and for all?

Seriously, though, I would have had a hard time turning down a shirtless Hiram too.

Hiram: I want to come home.
Hermione: You don’t live here anymore. Just … stop. Veronica and I are finally free of you.
Hiram: Is that what freedom looks like? Playing hostess at a teenager’s gin joint.
[Hiram takes off his shirt]
Hiram: Let me back in. You won’t have to work another day ever again. You’ll be my wife again.
Hermione: Over my dead body.
Hiram: That can be arranged.
[Hermione slaps Hiram]
Hiram: Was that foreplay or punishment?

Becca: Hermione didn't want to give up the wealth, status, and privilege that comes with being on Hiram's side in spite of the cost.

Jasmine: Can I be blunt? Hermione HAS TO BE d!ckmatized. For lack of a less colorful way of putting it. I mean, their sex scene was smoking hot, and they both seem to get off on all these twisted powerplays and all that.

Their fighting just always seems like foreplay, and she does like all the power that comes with Hiram.

Also, I mean, hot damn. Did you SEE him shirtless? It would be hard to turn him down. As hard as his abs.

God bless the person who applies the ab oil on this series. Is it the same person from Teen Wolf? Is that a legitimate job? I would pass out.

Day In Court - Riverdale Season 4 Episode 5

Mr. Dupont went off on Jughead after Jughead uncovered the truth of the original Baxter Brothers writer. Were you surprised by this sudden sharp change in character after his kind words from Riverdale Season 4 Episode 5?

Meaghan: Not really given the context. Jughead clearly struck a nerve with him by calling him out. If Jughead is right, that revelation could ruin this guy's life. He is definitely not going to go down without a fight.

Becca: Surprised by a Riverdale character’s sudden change in characterization or a reveal that he (or she) is shady? No.

I wish Riverdale switched how the reveals of Dupont and Charles’ true natures were paced. Charles could’ve been confirmed as a bad guy sooner, but I would’ve preferred if they had developed Jughead’s friendship with Dupont (and Chipping) and revealed more about what is truly going on before Dupont was unmasked.

Jasmine: HAHA! What Becca said.

Charles and Chic have been in a secret relationship and they're working together. What do you think is their master plan?

Meaghan: Can Riverdale stop trying to make Chic happen? Chic is that annoying pesky fly that just keeps coming back no matter how much you swat it away.

I think their endgame is to turn Betty into the serial killer. I am not sure what the point of it would be for them, but Charles seems to be trying to ignite that side of her.

Becca: I think they have two goals. Since they're conmen and the most likely culprits behind the videotapes, goal #1 is to extort as much money as they can from everyone in Riverdale.

The second goal is revenge against the Coopers and Joneses. Charles can't be happy with them for abandoning him to the Sisters of Quiet Mercy and sending his lover to prison.

Meaghan, I 100% agree with your assessment on Chic, but I'm glad there's a connection between Charles and Chic.

Riverdale's non-adherence to continuity and choosing to reinvent characters instead of building on what was previously established (Exhibit A: Forsythe the First) drives me crazy, so the writers not incorporating Chic into Charles' story instead of forgetting what was already set up between the two of them is a relief.

One Missed Call - Riverdale Season 4 Episode 3

Jasmine: How old are Charles and Chic? You know what? Nevermind.

Revenge. It's all about the sweet taste of revenge against the Coopers, namely, and the Joneses, and Riverdale. They're both conmen and playing the long con. I do agree that they at least get credit for making better use of the previous characters they introduced rather than starting something new with someone else.

I'm also annoyed with reinventing yet another abuser for plot convenience.

Poison Ivy - Riverdale Season 4 Episode 4

With the death of Uncle Bedford, Toni and Cheryl have a new body to hide. Will they be able to keep their secrets any longer or will Aunt Cricket find out the truth?

Meaghan: Aunt Cricket will find out the truth, but then she will just join Uncle Bedford in his grave.

Cheryl: What … what are you all doing here?
Penelope: Julian needs a body, Cheryl. So, we’re giving him yours!
[Cheryl screams]

Becca: Aunt Cricket isn’t the person Cheryl and Toni have to worry about. Penelope has to be behind the goings-on at Thistlehouse, and her official return to the narrative is imminent.

Jasmine: I hate everything about this "Choni" storyline. They master sidelining the hell out of both Cheryl and Toni, and I particularly hate what it does to Toni who can't seem to have her storyline without it getting overshadowed by Cheryl and the nutty Blossoms.

Why would Toni still be anywhere near that house? And I like Choni, but Cheryl needs to be in therapy. And Toni needs to stop enabling; she needs to do anything else. What happened to the Pretty Poisons? Are the Serpents just done?

I agree with the above. Aunt Cricket will be dead too, and Penelope is clearly wreaking havoc.

Roommates - Riverdale Season 4 Episode 4

Mr. Chipping jumped out a window after Jughead told him the truth of the Baxter Brothers series. Share your thoughts on this latest development for Stonewall Prep.

Meaghan: This place is downright insane. Obviously, it was found out that Chipping agreed to help Jughead. But what could have him scared him enough to want to kill himself rather than face?

How crazy was it that none of the kids even batted an eyelash when he jumped? Is it a normal occurrence there or something?

Becca: I'm bummed to be losing Mr. Chipping and Sam Witwer this early. Given how we can't even trust seeing the body as confirmation someone is dead; any chance he's alive?

If he’s really dead, then he goes on my list of Riverdale characters who got killed off too soon.

Another character on my list is the Sugarman from Riverdale Season 2. I wanted Mr. Chipping to make up for the Sugarman’s wasted potential, and instead, he only played a marginally expanded version. Since Dupont was revealed to be a villain so quickly, he doesn’t make up for the Sugarman’s lost potential either.

Jughead Gets An Offer - Tall - Riverdale Season 4 Episode 2

Jasmine: I ... what?! I'm also super bummed to be losing Chipping and Witwer this soon. Unless he'll appear again or something.

My mouth dropped. The students did not remotely react to their teacher hurling himself out of a second-story window. What was so bad that he would rather kill himself than face it head-on? Jeebus!

I agree that it felt like wasted potential, but maybe I'll have to see how it plays out first before I commit to that.
