Superstore Season 5 Episode 9 Review: Curbside Pickup

Cloud 9 launches their new curbside pickup service on Superstore Season 5 Episode 9

But while it might be convenient for the customers, it's absolute chaos for the employees.

With only 30 minutes to fulfill each order and new orders coming in nonstop, Jonah and Cheyenne find themselves unable to keep up with Dina's unrealistic expectations.

Crazy Day - Superstore Season 5 Episode 9

To start off, "Curbside Pickup" was a funny addition to the show.

This may not seem like a bold statement to make about a sitcom, but recently, the series has been lacking the humor it used to be great at providing.

Was the episode incredible? No. But it was significantly better than most of the other episodes on Superstore Season 5

Dina - Superstore Season 5 Episode 9

Amy used to have a sisterly relationship with Cheyenne, but now that she spends less time on the floor, Jonah seems to have stepped in and assumed a big brother role.

The dynamic between them is surprisingly refreshing, and I like that Superstore has been building their friendship this season.

Cheyenne's character went downhill during Superstore Season 4, and she seemed more interested in making fun of people than anything else.

Thankfully, she seems to have gone back to normal, but I can't help but wonder if it has to do with her spending more time with Jonah and less time with Mateo.

There's no time! The orders just keep coming! I had to pee for two hours, and now I don't anymore! Where did the pee go, Jonah?!

Mateo and Cheyenne have always been a dynamic duo, but they haven't had as many scenes this season. Given that Mateo seems to encourage the worst in Cheyenne, it might not be a horrible thing.

I still love their friendship and think they're one of the show's more comedic pairs, but Mateo has never been the nicest person, and it was rubbing off on Cheyenne for a time.

Amy - Superstore Season 5 Episode 9

Can we go back to the dynamic they shared in the early seasons of the show?

Speaking of Mateo, there could be a romance blossoming between him and Amy's brother, Eric.

However, it didn't happen naturally.

Eric: You maybe wanna go out some time? On a real date?
Mateo: Sure.
Eric: Obviously, we can never tell Amy.

Amy's attempts to set up Eric with Mateo were a bit extreme, and it was hard not to be embarrassed for Eric.

Amy wasn't being subtle in the slightest, and Mateo's disinterest was clear. His sister calling him hot and pushing her employee to be with him didn't seem to be the way Eric wanted to find a boyfriend.

Still, there's no denying that the two have the potential to be an adorable pair.

Will this be a relationship that continues? Or will we never see Eric again?

Given that Amy's brother has moved back to St. Lois, hopefully, we'll be seeing a lot more of him.

We're sure Jonah would love the opportunity to keep trying to impress his girlfriend's brother.

I'm doing this new curbside thing. It's kind of like an elite squad.

Jonah

Maybe Eric could go ahead and ask Jonah when he's going to propose to Amy? Just to get everything moving along?

Girlfriend's Bro - Superstore Season 5 Episode 9

With the 100th episode not too far away, maybe that'll be when Amy and Jonah finally take the next step. Of course, considering how they still don't act like a couple, it's hard to imagine it happening anytime soon.

But hey, we can dream.

Dina's determination to prove Jonah and Cheyenne wrong was one of the best parts of the episode.

Jonah and Dina have a hilarious dynamic that hasn't been played with enough recently, and it was enjoyable to see them bickering again.

Fighting Back - Superstore Season 5 Episode 9

At the end of the day, Dina's willpower has to be admired. Who else would keep working after getting hit by a car to prove Jonah wrong?

Jonah: Dina, we have to get you to the hospital!
Dina: Oh, you'd just love that, wouldn't you?! I'm not gonna give you the satisfaction.

Well, besides maybe Amy.

Overall, Superstore Season 5 Episode 9 was a good addition to the show. There were a handful of laugh-worthy moments and fun scenes between all of the characters.

However, the show is still nothing compared to what it was in the past, and we'll never stop hoping that it might return to its roots.

VR With the Best Man - Superstore Season 5 Episode 9

Stray Thoughts:

  • Garrett and Jerry needed that time to bond. Does their mutual love of gaming mean that Jerry has finally locked Garrett in as a friend?
  • Marcus and Justine realizing they're related and should probably stop sleeping together is one of the most cringe-worthy moments on the entirety of Superstore. I'd like to erase that from my memory, please.
  • Did anyone else get extremely anxious when Cheyenne turned off the printer? "Curbside Pickup" was not a good one for the stress levels.
  • Mateo and Eric have great potential, but I'm still holding out for Mateo and Jeff to end up together. They may have had some rockiness in their relationship, but at the end of the day, Jeff put everything on the line for him.

Regardless of whether or not they become a couple again, it would be nice if Mateo thanked Jeff for everything he did for him.
  • The Sosas are a hot family and every is right to be talking about it. Case closed.
