great episode and review :)
This episode was very rushed and intense... almost jaggedy like that movie 'Black Swan." I think it was an effect they were going for but I didn't like it. I like the soft pop of your general Empire episode. I disagree with you about Frida. I think she is the most talented artist and the show, and I love her voice, and raw energy. I'm starting to get a little bit bored of Cookie and Lucious having more or less the exact same conversation and argument every single episode, it's sort of repetitive - and it doesn't go anywhere. Hakeem looked seriously damaged from what happened, as usual Empire rushed through 20 plots at break neck speed, and as it does when it reaches any serious topic, it didn't really let the audience have any time to really explore the real issue because we didn't understand what was going on. I have a feeling Anika will fall pregnant after her encounter with Hakeem - it seems to be the only reason they would have highlighted that whole scene. The scene with the three brothers, was as usual, quite moving. It was the first episode I've liked Andre in all season. When he told his parents to clear out and let him and Jamaal talk to Hakeem, it was the first time he actually took control of a situation and it looked good on him.
I thought all the episode was funny. Lily might not have many lines because she has probably started school now, and they might be trying to cut back on her involvement in the show slightly to give her some token chance at a bit of a normal childhood. I actually really liked seeing Mitch and Jay bond. I know they stereotype Dylan a lot but I found it really entertaining, especially seeing Phil and then Claire snap. I don't think Luke has been giving a stereotype teenage identity at all. The fact he would ditch two college girls to stay with his sister is saying a lot for his family values. I thought the episode was super cute. Maybe a little stereotyped, but I mean it's Modern Family, that's how it rolls
I love that there is this recurring theme with Cookie and Hakeem with the broom. In the first episode she hit him on the head with it, the second time at the end of the season she started sweeoping with it and this time she handed him a broom so they could sweep together and build a new project. What was Tianna wearing to rehearse in? They kept pointing the camera at her crotch the whole time, it was hard to miss!
haha thankyou! they are so oblivious to the fact a whole country is at war, and everything bassam was trying to do to change things, because it upset their little daily lives... they were so frustrating. This season has been so much better focusing on Jamal's family - who no matter how misguided, are genuinely invested in their country and their people.
Ps. if they kept a show as stagnant as Revenge, whose storyline should have finished in season 2... for 4 seasons... mistresses DEFNITELY deserves a few more!
omg this show is so addictive!! There'd better be a season 4 with a cliffhanger like that... this is such soapy fun. My girlfriends and I love watching it. It was sweet the way they put Mark and April finally together. I wasn't really all in for that pairing but in the end I liked it! It was so tear jerking watching Vivian give her goodbye talk to the baby, and also watching Karen crying in the car alone. I know that her and Alec just have this massive empty hole now... even if they care strongly for each other they need to heal themselves a bit first. I love Joss & Harry - they are my favorites but for both storylines tonight I have to say: Dumb dumb dumb.... Cmon Girl! You think someone is trying to frame Calista and harrasing u with letters and you walk by yourself, no one knows where you are, into the mansion where there is a possible pyschopath, and the last time you were there somewhat got shot by a gun, and then surprise surprise... there is the psychopath in question... with the same gun... Joss... you are a bit smarter then that? And Harry's story... well it's totally implausible. He had an interview, and then has to leave in like one day... film stuff takes weeks to prepare... if you go away for that long you would need at least a month just to fill out the visas, insurance, crew, etc etc... a little to speed packed to be even slightly credible. Calista girl.... you better still be around next season... you can't be giving in that easy... you've only been in jail for about two weeks, and Joss only just realised the truth... give it a little time! I can't believe we have to wait another year for this addictive show!! It has to be renewed!!
I liked the Joss - Scott scenes actually ... I think there was this question from Joss through the whole season... Did I make the right choice? And this flashback scenes lead her to realise sometimes fate is inevitable and the UNiverse would have course-corrected any choice sh made anyway (borrowing a theory from Lost). I really think they should consider putting April and Daniel back together for good - those two have off the chart chemistry and they connect so well. Her relationship with Blair is so boring, like this "1950's Cliche" of how she thinks a relationship could be. She can't even be honest with him about anything. And Marc is really cute and sweet but I just think he is a bit too young for April. He needs to grow up first. I loved seeing Daniel back again! I find the Karen storyline very funny. I liked her telling off the Priest because I thought she was just going to suck it up and cry a bit more, but then she got all ballsy and super righteous. She is such a neurotic character and I love watching her journey. Joss & Harry are my favorite characters and I want them to just be together. I honestly think they can actually stay togetether without all this makeup break up and still have enough drama just by virtue of their big personalities to still be entertaining - but the writers need to actually GIVE them a chance! I like Aryi's charcter but it would really be refreshing if she actually becomes a strong female friend support in Hary's life and not another brief distracting love interest to momentarily deter him from Joss yet again... Snooze! The main thing I don't like about the Calista trial is I can no longer see how Calista and Joss can actually ever become friends again after all has played out... I think Calista is such an epic character and conjures up that old school rocker style. She needs to stay in the show and I would hate her to have to go because of this. And I'm sort of sad Luca died because it was good to have a character you could just plain dislike without any grey areas... killing him off so quickly I feel like we could have really had another season of hating him before they did that... moving too fast writers! I actually really enjoyed this episode!
I was a pretty huge fan of this show... but I think they should have condensed the last two seasons into one... the story was really over long ago. Once they lost Conrad they just lost anything funny about it. And once they sort of took it out of the Hamptons, they just lost the glamor which made you able to just enjoy the soap and overlook the ridiculousness of some of the plots. Also the whole Margaux and Louise substory was just so unbelievable and unnecessary, as was the Malcolm Black story. The real story had been told. They just didn't need the rest. The initial concept, and the story of her getting Revenge on all these elite society members who had pretty much locked her in a closet as a child was brilliant, which is why I think the overall story was marred by this last season, and it's a shame. Anyway I still do love a lot of the characters, and costumes and scenery so will remember this show for it's initial 2 Seasons with fondness :)
I never thought this three way couple with Karen could be so attractive, but it's fascinating to watch. Karen just continues to surprise episode after episode. I am loving this actress I have to say... I watched her for 7 seasons on Lost play a very conservative and traditional role, and I love this totally different woman who is just exploring herself and her many loves without any real misgivings. I think Harry is gorgeous and I know he is being an arse but I am so totally team Harry/Joss (maybe cos I am aussie). I really wish the writers would at least give them the chance to be happy as a couple for a couple of weeks before just tearing them apart in every single episode. I mean we've watched these two for 3 seasons now and they don't seem to cut either of them a break. Every week you think they will just have one happy in love episode with someone or each other, and they always end up in tears! I love Marc, and I think April is one of the most stunning actresses on TV! I don't think they really work as a couple though - more as a family. I really think she connected best with Daniel. The two had real chemistry. I don't really understand why she's broken up with him. This Blair guy seems like the 'good on paper' she feels she 'should' be with. I didn't really like Savi's character. Nothing on Alyssa Milano, it was just her character really frustrated me. She was super self involved and she really never seemed to care at all how her actions affected others in anyway. I found her extremely selfish. I mean I still think if it was realistic, what Joss and Harry did was unforgivable - because Savi and Harry were together 15 years... thats such a betrayal no matter how you look at it. I feel like the show actually cast the wrong couple to begin with. Even in Season 1, Savi and Harry just didn't have chemistry, Joss and Harry always had it through the ceiling - I think they realised it and trying to repair the damage. Lastly I think the character of Calista is one of the best characters I've seen on TV in so long. She is very rock n roll and super relatable, like a lot of stronger older women I have met in the fashion industry. They have really nailed an awesome character who brings something fresh and powerful to this little group! This show is great escapist watching especially when you're home sick all week with the flu!!! :)
