I hope someone respond to this I can't wait to see their review!
Peter could possibly become the new leader of people with abilities?? I like this idea
Did anyone else notice notice that the Carnival symbol was on the floor of the room Vanessa was waiting in for Samuel?
yeah i liked the idea of petter being the leader of people with abilities!! in was a good episode!! i think the action in getting started!
OK, I didn't get a chance to respond to the chance to review this episode for this website, but I will do my best in this thread.
I didn't think this episode was all that bad. It was certainly an improvement over the the plodding double episode last week. But again, this episode continued with the parallels to S1 in that Peter now has an endgame. He had the dream of Emma using her cello to lure people to the carnival -- and from the pained expression on her face it was against her will. And we were left with the impression that Sylar relieves her pain -- I'm going to guess by giving her the old skull-cap ginsu. Peter's objective? Save the cellist, save the world. I don't think (hope) Peter's smashing of the cello and Emma's rejection of him will be the end of this.
I got a chuckle out of the Ando-Hiro-Suresh storyline, but I want to see it amount to something. The challenge in evaluating a serialized story is that something that seems out of place or useless now could fit in quite nicely by the time the whole story is told. That they have approached HRG is promising. That their objective is the same as his is even more so, and that Peter is headed to the same place. Parkman is coming to the realization that he can and should be doing something good with his ability, and if he is going after Sylar that puts him on a course towards the carnival. All these pieces coming together is very similar to everything falling into place that brought all the Heroes to Kirby Plaza. I think that bodes well for future episodes, and this episode established all of that.
Yes, I do agree HRG should have tried to rebuild his relationship with Claire earlier and simply asked her for the compass. But he now has Suresh, who has a much better understanding of the compass and what they are up against. And B) I am subscribing to the theory that when next week's episode airs, we will find out Sylar was already in Claire's room. Now, Sylar can't really threaten Claire because she can heal, but he can hold Gretchen hostage to make her bend to his will, so I will go with that until the show proves otherwise.
However, there is something that bugged the crap out of me in this episode (and the last one), and it is how they are handling some of the powers. In some cases, what a person's ability can do is just too convenient. Let me get this straight about Ando: he can shoot red lightning from his hands, effective as a weapon, or to open an electronically-sealed door, or to unmuddle a muddled brain. That's too easy, and an example of lazy writing. Peter took his mother's ability and just happened to have the xact same dream as her? I'm not sure about any of you, but I have no control over what I dream, and neither does Angela. Again, too easy and lazy writing. Lydia can now send telepathic messages? How the? Emma can see colours where sound exists, use the power of sound from her cello to crack her wall and use the melodies to attract people to her? It gets to be a bit much.
However, we have better idea today of where this is going. Samuel is charming people with abilities to him to build his power. Emma will be his tool for bringing people to him, presumably for slaughter. To what end, I'm sure we'll find out. I'm not quite certain of Vanessa's role in all of this, or what Samuel is going to show her, but again, I don't expect the entire season to be nicely explained in one episode. Peter, Matt, HRG, Hiro, Ando and Suresh are all headed in the same direction, with a golden opportunity to have them team up to fight evil. The only real wild card at the moment is Tracy. How she fits into all of this will be interesting to see.
Nice work, Kal15!
