My dad challenged me to be better, be stronger, be noble. And now that he's gone, I have to be all those things for myself. I think we all have to do that. We have to make ourselves proud. We have to write our own moral code and stop living by somebody else's, even if that someone else is our own father.
Papa: What's your least favorite thing about being a father?
Pastor Jackson: I have a fear that I won't be there for you when you need me. I never want to let you down, son.
Kevin: Might be moving to LA.
Papa: What's in LA?
Kevin: Might want to take this gaming thing to another level.
Jake: You should go.
Papa: Damn, Jake. What about his family? What about Maisha? What about us?
Jake: Man, we ain't going nowhere.
It's nice being around another PK. Most of my friends don't get me. I'm always saying awkward shit, and because I don't watch regular TV, um, I usually don't get they references half the time. I was always an oddball with my friends, too.
Stanley: Both of you all need to be worried about your futures and keeping your nose in the good book.
Papa: But you ain't always done what the good book says.
Stanley: What, you challenging me, boy?
Papa: I mean, somebody's got to.
