Recap

The show opens with a cameo from Bradley Cooper, playing himself.

Janine introduces Elizabeth from the Board of Education and Joan from the city, who are visiting Abbott Elementary to announce that the school is being designated as a historical landmark.

Ava announces a pizza party to the school to celebrate the designation.

Barbara and Melissa tell Janine that the historical designation is meaningless, but that they're happy for Janine because they know it's important to her.

Elizabeth confirms Barb and Melissa's warning by calling the party a "press opp" accidentally.

After Janine delivers a speech at the party, demonstrators show up to protest the historical designation, informing everyone that Willard R. Abbott was a racist who was pro-segregation.

The teachers try to brainstorm a solution that would allow the school to keep their designation.

Janine, Jacob, and Gregory work together to see if there is another Willard R. Abbott who would be deserving of having the school named for him. Jacob takes a break and leaves Janine and Gregory alone, taking a moment to update the camera crew about their "will-they-won't-they" history.

The teachers find a descendant of Abbott's who shares his full name and appears to be a perfect candidate to be the school's namesake.

During his acceptance speech, Willie Abbott reveals that he is a flat-earther and believes in several other problematic conspiracy theories, which means they can no longer in good conscience name the school after him.

Barbara and Melissa attempt to make Janine feel better about the loss of the designation.

Janine gathers students and teachers to tell them the history of Black teachers in Philadelphia, information she found during her research, and everyone realizes that the historical designation isn't important after all.
