It's New Year's Eve, and nail-salon owner Desna Simms, her best friend and nail technician Jenn and the salon's muscle, Quiet Ann, are excited about a party planned for that night. They are joined by longtime friend Polly, just released after a stretch in prison for identity theft. The joyful reunion is interrupted by the arrival of Virginia, who has been filling in for Polly. Roller, Desna's employer with benefits, arrives at the salon. Desna is laundering money from Roller's drug clinic located in the same strip mall, and Roller wants Desna to make another round of deposits. Desna plans to use the bonus Roller is promising her to move to her dream nail salon. The drug clinic is run by Dr. Ken Brickman, a drug-addicted physician who is paranoid about two Russians who sit in the waiting room all day. Desna is the caretaker for her autistic twin brother Dean. Polly, who is living at a fleabag motel, skips the party at Dixie Mafia boss Uncle Daddy's strip club. Uncle Daddy gives Roller a house for his bonus, but gives Desna only $3,000, not the $20,000 Roller had promised to her. Polly shows up at the party. Desna confronts Roller at his new house, but he blows her off. Meanwhile, Roller has taken up with Virginia, and Desna sees them together. Roller tells Desna to get rid of Polly and her ankle monitor. Upon Virginia's return to the salon, Desna punches her in the face and the crew throws her out into the street. Desna approaches Uncle Daddy directly about her bonus, but he blows her off as well. Angry Desna drives the Russians out of the clinic. Desna decided to split up the funds among her workers. Desna finds Roller choking Virginia, then later attempts to drown him. He recovers and starts beating her, but then Virginia shoots him.
