Recap

Above the vortex to the Time Stream, Immortus/Isabel continues to hover and roar.

The team is ejected from the portal. As they get on their feet, they realize the Butts and Were-Butts are about to break down the doors to the theater.

Rouge turns into a bird and flies off.

Immortus screams to eradicate Jane but she Flits away. When she realizes she used Flit’s power, she hears Kay in her head telling her that everyone is a part of her now.

Jane begins to fight Immortus, using all the alts’ powers at once. Larry releases Keeg to attack Immortus. Cliff picks up a row of seats to throw at Immortus but gets stuck and falls over.

Rouge wakes Rita up to talk about running away and leaving the team again. Rita tells her to go back and be a part of the Doom Patrol because she is a part of the team. She tells Rouge to get her wheelchair so she can go fight too.

In the theater, Jane’s Silver Tongue powers are deflected by Immortus’s scream and break open the doors, letting the Butts in.

As the Butts attack the team and Immortus, Jane hears singing. Dr. Margaret and Nicholas enter, singing Shipoopi. The Butts join in with choreography. This enrages Immortus/Isabel who wants the spotlight back and breaks into the Possibilities song from the Cloverton production of Our Town. The Butts and Dr. Margaret back her up as a chorus. The Doom Patrol also sing along as they slowly leave the theater.

As the team escapes, Immortus/Isabel gathers the Time Stream powers and transports herself and all the Butts along with the entire playhouse away. Rita and Rouge arrive.

Back at Doom Manor, Larry makes pancakes. The team sits down to breakfast to discuss their latest success. They wage a friendly debate as to whether they won the day or if the Butts saved the world from Immortus.

They toast Rita and welcome her back. She appreciates the kudos and makes plans to get dressed up. When she falls asleep, mid-sentence, Rouge offers to help. That wakes Rita up and she heads up to get dressed.

Vic and Jane discuss the changes they’ve gone through recently. Jane adopts the name Kay, short for Kaleidoscope.

The doorbell rings. An incredibly blinged out Isabel/Immortus is there, greeting them as besties.

She tells them in the hour or so since they last saw each other, her new show has had a very successful thousand-year run in the Time Stream. She’s back to thank them for introducing her to the Butts who have written all the great material she’s been performing.

She gives them a baggy of toenail clippings. She instructs them each to eat one to restore their longevity. Cliff and Jane jump at the opportunity. She gives Cliff an additional gift, a crystal prism, telling him he’ll know what it’s for when the time comes.

Jane eats hers and immediately becomes youthful again. Rouge grabs one to take up to Rita. As Cliff feels his longevity return, he celebrates but there’s a scream from upstairs.

Rita’s died.

Cliff proposes they go get Rita from the Afterlife. The team’s onboard. Larry runs downstairs to find something Rita loved to be a tether. He starts searching through the liquor cart, asking Keeg if he can feel the bond between any bottle and Rita’s spirit.

Rita’s ghost asks if he seriously thinks a liquor bottle can be a tether.

Rita hugs Larry as he tries to convince her they can come get her.

Tearfully, she promises there’s more love out there for Larry to find.

She decides to call one last team meeting.

She tells the team she wants to stay dead, to finally rest. She states they all need to work on themselves in order to be able to help others. She disbands the Doom Patrol for good. Her last assignment to the team is to burn her body.

Rita’s Ghost oversees the burning ceremony. She’s underwhelmed by the team’s offerings of tokens. As Kay sings an Ave Maria, the heat causes Rita’s body’s blob power to bubble up into a huge inflated balloon until Rouge pops it with a stick, causing a stinky gas to be released.

Rita’s Ghost fades away.

In the manor afterwards, the remaining members gather to watch ‘Secret Rendezvous’ one of Rita’s biggest films.

They watch and rewatch the movie until they all fall asleep. Kay wakes up in the morning to find Cliff gone.

She finds him at his car, preparing to leave. They discuss their plans for the future.

Larry returns to his room. He and Keeg commiserate on how they miss Rama.

The manor is gradually packed away, everything covered in cloths. Cyborg wanders through and finds a drunk Rouge in the living room.

Cyborg tells Rouge about his experience interacting with his future self while he was in the Time Stream.

Rouge questions whether she’ll know the difference between being good and bad. Vic promises to let her know when she’s gone too far.

Larry’s packing up his room when he finds the rag that belonged to his first lover. Remembering how it felt to lose him, Larry asks Keeg to find Rama and take him with him.

He rushes by Kay who’s browsing listings for sublets.

The alarm goes off after Larry leaves. Kay goes to investigate and finds Casey taking Niles’s spaceship to space.

Casey admits she’s glad to see her. Kay asks how long she’ll be in space. She looks at the ship and asks Casey if she’d welcome the company in space.

Cliff’s in Florida, celebrating Rory’s first birthday. As he’s taking Rory out to see the car he bought him to fix up together, he freezes up. When Clara comes out to help him, he admits that he’s dying.

In the Afterlife, Rita finds Malcolm waiting for her. They embrace.

Keeg flies Larry deep into the ocean to find the block of lead Rama turned himself into. They carry him into space. Rama returns to his human form. Larry’s bandages unwrap. He reassures Rama that they’ll be fine. They kiss and disappear into a nebula.

In a classroom, Deric introduces Vic to the students. Vic tells the students that what they do in this classroom will save more lives than Cyborg could ever save on his own.

In space, Casey surprises Kay with a kitten. They kiss.

Rouge rides an elevator on her own. When it arrives, she’s at the Ant Farm, armed with a flamethrower, and she proceeds to light everyone and everything on fire, laughing maniacally.

In Florida, Clara’s working on the car and asks Cliff for a part. He’s in the driver’s seat and Rory’s got the part in his mouth. Cliff reaches to get it and gets stuck. The crystal prism Immortus/Isabel gave him hangs from the rearview mirror. Cliff sees something in the reflection.

He sees Rory in a few years, sitting in the driver’s seat pretending to drive. And then the scene shifts to Rory actually driving the car as a teenager, with Clara teaching him to drive. Next, Clara and Melissa are seeing a tux-wearing Rory off to his prom with his date. Then he’s driving the girl, now very pregnant and in labor, to the hospital. Even later, Rory drives away from his wife and kid in the car, his wife calling him a piece of shit.

In the present, Clara calls out to Cliff, asking if he’s okay.

Still lost in the crystal’s images, Cliff sees Rory driving an elderly Clara, reassuring her that everything’ll be okay. Parked by a cemetery, Rory cries.

In Cliff’s memories, he remembers being alive and holding Clara as a baby, watching her grow up, comforting her as a child.

In the crystal, Rory is introduced to his own grandson, Geordie. Geordie grasps Rory’s finger.

In the present, Rory is holding onto Cliff’s finger. Clara checks on him. Cliff’s reassures her, “It’s okay, I made it home.” The light in his eyes fades.

Doom Patrol Season 4 Episode 12 Quotes

Rita: You just left them?
Rouge: Yeah, just ran away. Just like the future said I would. Because I survive at all costs. That’s what I have always fucking done!
Rita: No. I refuse to accept that. As long as we’re alive, we can change. You’re a shapeshifter, for crying out loud. You of all people should know that.
Rouge: I’m a selfish coward. That seems to be the one thing I can’t shapeshift away.

Larry: So, what’s first? Immortus or Butts?
Rouge: No, no, no, no. No, no, NOOO! [turns into a bird and flies away]
Cliff: Hey! Fleeing isn’t one of the options! Goddammit.
Immortus: You’re back? How?
Vic: Might as well start with the screaming time god.
