When you watch Madam Secretary Season 2 Episode 12 you'll see just how quickly things can go from bad to worse. Elizabeth is getting ready to head to Myanmar to sign the Pacific Rim trading agreement, but her staff has some bad news for her. The staff lets her know the American ambassador, Maxwell, to Myanmar is against the trade deal and would like to discuss the terms of the agreement with Elizabeth. Elizabeth agrees to speak to him and tries to reassure him things will be OK with the agreement and Myanmar will flourish under the agreement, but Maxwell is convinced something terrible will happen. When Elizabeth lands in Myanmar she's surprised to see a demonstration being led by Maxwell condeming the agreement and the United States. Later, Maxwell takes the President of Myanmar hostage and makes him listen to his side regarding the agreement. The President is swayed by what Maxwell says and refuses to sign the agreement until he's promised Myanmar will be safe and their water supply will be protected. Elizabeth is able to broker a deal with China and have them keep Myanmar's supplies safe and the President agrees to sign the deal. Don't feel bad if you missed out!
