Nova is championing the Defund the Police movement with True Papers. She has a confidential source in the NOPD, Officer Walker, who gives Nova information about current brutality in the police department for a True Papers exclusive. Nova returns home to find her door is open, and her keys are on the table. She thinks she was distracted and running late left them there, but the incident rattles her.

With the help of her family, Nova organizes a Covid-19 vaccine drive for St. Jo’s, but people come from all over and overwhelm the clinics. Nova tries to limit the vaccines to St. Josephine residents, but some people in line claim Nova is choosing black people for the vaccine and sending white people away.

With vaccine doses running low and people getting desperate, Nova calls the Sheriff’s office to help keep the peace. Unfortunately, the Sheriff’s Officer doesn’t like Nova because of her Defund the Police campaign. Confrontations ensue.

When Prosper, who is volunteering, gets into a verbal argument with a woman in line, a Sheriff’s officer steps in and grabs Prosper, who ends up falling and hitting his head on the concrete. Prosper lies unconscious while the Bordelon family scrambles to get help.
