The series premiere opens with Sam acting drunk and chugging a water bottle full of vodka. Her boss fires her, and she goes off, inciting its discrimination. She accidentally assaults him with a phone.

She receives court-ordered rehab and community service and must live with her overbearing mom, Carol. She meets with her probation officer, who implies she got off lucky and says she must attend AA meetings for 90 days.

At the meeting, she gets a text from Felicia wanting to party. She runs into James, with who she had a drunken one-night stand and can't remember. Sam also meets Olivia, who's like a mother hen, and tells her she's not alone.

Sam tries not to drink when she sees Felicia but has a few. It gets worse when they run into Sam's ex-best friend, who is marrying her old boyfriend, Joel. Sam gets sick, and she and Brit try to talk but end up fighting.

Felicia overhears, and she Brit argue over how to get Sam home. Sam gets into her car and crashes into Brit's party bus.

Sam ends up back in jail, and Olivia bails her out. Olivia asks her if she's ready to face her problems and get help.

Sam's mom, Carol, is fed up and wants Sam to start paying rent. The probation officer adds 250 hours of community service and driver's ed to Sam's list of things to do.

Sam begs Olivia for help. Olivia says another one of her sponsees manages a grocery store and needs a cashier. Sam's mom is proud and tries to celebrate with wine, forgetting that Sam can't drink at all.
