Recap

As the jet lands, Joe provides Cruz with a final check-in and two satellite devices embedded in jewelry that are her only point of contact. Cruz says goodbye to the team and heads out with Kyle, who will be her closest point of contact. Cuz gets on her plane undetected, and the plan is in motion.

Byron speaks to Secretary of State Mullins and other higher-ups, including the Chief of Staff and NSA Advisor about Cruz, letting them know their asset is making her move. While the White House Staff aren't thrilled and are deliberating about the whereabouts of the President, but agree to let the mission continue.

Cruz makes it safely to Mallorca and is picked up by Aaliyah's security while the Lioness team secures a yacht to monitor from outside the venue. The Lioness team secures the yacht and heads out, getting word that Cruz is officially on her way to the wedding festivities.

Cruz arrives at the compound and security thoroughly checks her as Byron and the White House Staff watch from the Situation Room. They question the mission, and it's explained that the best-case scenario would see Cruz draw the target out into an open space where the Lioness team can then proceed with a strike. If that's not possible, other avenues will be explored.

Cruz is brought to Eshan rather than Aaliyah, and he questions her about her time with Aaliyah in New York. He asks why she and Aaliyah were in tears, and Cruz explains they were both scared – Aaliyah about her life changing, Cruz about her life staying the same. Eshan doesn't believe her and slaps Cruz, explaining that tomorrow he'll marry Aaliyah and Cruz will be gone from their lives. He tells Cruz to say her goodbyes tonight and not to mention their conversation, or he'll have her thrown into the sea. Cruz holds her own and then asks to be taken to Aaliyah or the airport. Though security suggests the airport, Eshan has Cruz brought to Aaliyah.

Cruz enters the women's side of the compound, a far more welcoming and inviting space than where she's been previously. Aaliyah introduces Cruz to her impolite mother before showing her around, clearly happy for a reprieve from the festivities.

Back at home, Kate wakes from a gory nightmare of her car accident screaming and crying. Neil hears her from upstairs and rushes down, comforting his daughter through her screams. Joe gets a call from Kate, who feels guilty about missing her friend's funeral. She offers to bring Kate to say goodbye at the cemetery when she gets home, then talks Kate through some breathing. Neil takes the phone, and the couple fight. Joe is annoyed that Neil has called her without warning in the middle of an ambush. Both are tense, but Neil tells Joe to focus on the task at hand, and they hang up angry.

The Lioness team scopes out the cliffs surrounding the wedding venue, discussing their approach if it's needed, as Aaliyah and Cruz look out over the water. Aaliyah explains the wedding ceremony and festivities to Cruz, then lets her know she'll get to meet her father the following morning at the group breakfast. She says everywhere is dangerous for her father, but she doesn't understand the oil business so she's unsure why there's such danger. Aaliyah explains that she knows her father's called a terrorist, but she doesn't know if she believes it. She understands why her father chose Eshan as her husband because she's smart and wealthy and their children won't be in danger.

Aaliyah says Eshan knows about her and Cruz. He doesn't know the details, but she can tell he knows something happened. She says it's likely the last of New York she'll see for a while. She asks Cruz to remember her because it's clear they won't be able to see each other after this. Cruz says Aaliyah will be hard to forget.

Joe and the Lioness team get their first visual of Amrohi, which causes the White House Staff a flood of alarm. Aaliyah shows Cruz to her room and the two share a moment but don't act on it. Cruz dissolves into tears when Aaliyah is gone, left alone with her feelings.

Elsewhere in the compound, Eshan runs a security check on Cruz. Byron calls Kaitlyn to ask if Cruz can be pulled out of the mission. Kaitlyn snaps at Byron, who tells the White House Staff Cruz can't be removed.

Neil calls Joe, but she ignores it as she prepares to take on the mission. He texts her to tell her to be safe and that they all love her at home, and Joe takes the message in without replying. When she walks away, Kaitlyn follows and takes her phone, saying Joe will never get back home if she keeps focusing on her family.

Aaliyah sneaks into Cruz's room in the middle of the night, explaining she doesn't want to get married. She told Cruz that she said it to Eshan, but it doesn't matter because she has no say in her own life. Cruz and Aaliyah talk in bed, Cruz saying Aaliyah doesn't know her while Aaliyah lays out who she thinks Cruz is. Aaliyah kisses Cruz, and after a moment, Cruz breaks away and goes off searching for water.

Eshan finds an old photo of Cruz online, one that's attached to her name. He's able to find her, then, clocking that she's a Marine and quickly springing into action. In the kitchen, Cruz tries to calm herself down but is interrupted by an older man who she immediately knows is Amrohi. He's aware of her and offers her gelato, the two speaking amicably until Eshan bursts in shouting. He calls her out for being a Marine and Cruz springs into action, stabbing Eshan before slitting Amrohi's throat. She signals with her beacons as she runs out of the room, and the Lioness team springs into action to get her out safely.

Aaliyah finds the mess in the kitchen, screaming in terror to see her fiance and father slain on the floor, but Cruz has already started running. Security fires at her as she does her best to run through the compound, unarmed and in her t-shirt and underwear.

Byron calls Katilyn, asking for details she doesn't have as Cruz runs through the compound in an attempt to escape. The Lioness team gets to Cruz, picking off the security guards as Joe takes Cruz to the water, telling her to swim to the yacht for safety.

Cruz makes it aboard and punches Joe before being pulled in by Kaitlyn, confirming she's killed Amrohi. The White House Staff, including Mullins, aren't happy that the job is done even though Amrohi was first on the kill list.

Joe calls Cruz outside and swings at her again, but Joe tells Cruz not to try it again. The two fight, Joe telling Cruz she changed history while Cruz doesn't feel she changed anything but oil prices. Cruz flies off the handle, quitting the task force before heading back into the interior.

Joe finally returns home to find Neil up early. She tells him through tears that this mission was hard and he hugs her, letting her truly break down for the first time.

Special Ops: Lioness Season 1 Episode 8 Quotes

Aaliyah: Eshan knows about us. He doesn’t know, but…he knows. I bet that’s the last of New York I’ll see for a while. And in two days all I will know of love is what I can imagine, and what I can remember. That’s not fair to you to say, but it’s true. And maybe you’ll remember me someday.
Cruz: You’re gonna be pretty hard to forget.

They say you only think you know love until you have a child. Now, something must happen – something biological, because I can’t stand children. They’re too noisy and dirty, and yeah, not a fan. But I hope I love my children. I hope God gives me that. Maybe it will be enough.
