Lisa is an illustrator. She and her young daughter, Poppy, live with her long-time boyfriend, Veggie.

But Lisa is an insomniac and every night, she FaceTimes with her friend, Danny. Danny is a journalist who lives alone. He hasn’t left his home in three years since his relationship with his girlfriend, Chloe, ended. He’s also an insomniac.

With Veggie at home taking care of her sick daughter, Lisa goes out to the pharmacy to get some medicine. Veggie is reading The History of Bricks because he’ll be doing a Brick-Athlon over the weekend, where you run, swim, and cycle and then have to build a small wall.

While on a video call with Danny, she can see that he’s in the dark. He’s got his lights off because his strange neighbor, known as Cat Man, invited him to his cat’s birthday party. Instead of saying no, Danny told him he was going to be on a month-long trip, staying at every Disney park in the world. Now, he’s trapped in his apartment with no way out.

Danny tries to leave his apartment to get a pizza delivery but can’t make himself step into the hallway. In order to avoid Cat Man, he has the delivery guy give him the pie one piece at a time through a slightly opened window.

Danny tells Lisa about an incredibly romantic date he set up for Chloe. Lisa is obviously moved.

Lisa tells Danny that she took Poppy on a class trip, knowing she had chicken pox. She even made a special mask for Poppy to wear to hide it. Now she fears the other moms know what she did.

When Zach’s mom comes into the pharmacy, Lisa tries to hide but gets caught anyway. Zach has chicken pox and questions Poppy about wearing the mask during the class trip. Lisa ends up giving her the last bottle of the calamine lotion.

When the pharmacist fails to show up, Poppy offers to pay for it so that Zach’s mom can leave. She tries to ring herself up and ends up charging 200 quid to her card. She then goes under the counter to grab enough product to make up for the money she’s already paid. That’s when she finds the pharmacist has died.

After talking to the police, Lisa goes back home on the bus to Veggie and Poppy but talks to Danny the entire way.

Lisa encourages Danny to join a dating app. That’s how she met Veggie. When she sets up Danny’s profile, it tells her that Danny is a 91% match for her. Veggie sends her a photo of Poppy, who has finally gotten to sleep.
