Jacob and Ezekial head to the horse races, to visit Jacob's friend Slayton. He tells them about the bad luck he has been experiencing at a local casino. Then the owner claims Slayton's horse. A bee sting sends Slayton into shock. At the hospital, they suspect magic is at the root of all the freak accidents connected to the local track, Fortune Downs. Everyone is losing but for the track/casino owner, Benny Kanopka. He seems to be stealing luck from everyone, but he fails with Cassandra on the roulette wheel. Eve thinks the artifact is a pinky ring, but testing proves it has no magic in it. Thugs remove Cassandra to the counting room. Benny threatens to torture her, but he doesn't have it in him. But his moll is actually Fortuna, the Roman goddess of luck. Fortuna's blown kiss on the casino's ads is infecting everyone with bad luck. Eve and Jacob overcome their bad luck to rescue Cassandra. Ezekial is no longer infected after he hacked a slot machine. Fortuna plans to throw a kiss on a national broadcast, to infect the whole country. Their plan is to disable all the cameras. Benny rescues them from the army of thugs which Fortuna has recruited. Bennie asks for their help. Their new plan is to rig the track and casino to steal the luck back from Fortuna. Everybody wins, turning Fortuna back into a statue. Slayton got back his horse.
