On the series premiere of The McCarthys, we are introduced to Mom Marjorie, Dad Albert and their four kids Ronny, Gerard, Sean and Jackie. 

The family is often gathered around the television watching a Boston sports team, whether its the Celtics or the Red Sox. Oldest son, Ronny, a 29 year old, gay guidance counselor, tells the family he is moving to Rhode Island, much to the dismay of his family (especially Marjorie). Throughout the episode Marjorie tries hard to convince Ronny to stay, but in the end he decides for himself that he wants to be near his family. 

The family is watching a game when they receive word that Albert's assistant basketball coach Fatty has passed away. As they gather for his funeral, another area basketball coach tries to recruit one of the top players, but Albert is able to get the player because he tells the players lesbian mom his gay son is now the assistant coach. At the end of the episode, it looks like Ronny is going to take the job. 

Daughter Jackie tells the family she is pregnant with Fatty's child, while the other two McCarthy sons Gerard and Sean can't believe their father picked athletically challenged Ronny to coach with him.
