Togetherness Season 1 Episode 2 opens with Brett wandering through Southern California, sound equipment in tow, on a mission to record factually accurate coyote sounds to use as background noise for a television crime drama. His hard work is brushed aside by his director, who claims that stock sounds of wolves serve the episode better, even though they are not local to the region where the show is set.

If Brett can't win at work, it is Michelle who can't win at home. She is on a mission to bring a spark back into her relationship with Brett, whose sexual prowess has become routine and mechanical after years of marriage. Michelle wants him to lose control, and as a means to this end, she decides a little 50 Shades of Grey role playing is in order. She will be playing the role of Christian Grey and procures a dead bolt and pair of handcuffs to get started. 

Meanwhile, Alex is sleeping his days away. While Michelle is taking a coddling approach to her new house guest, Tina feels a little tough love is in order. She wakes him with an ice water shower and enlists his help with her party planning business. He refuses to do so out of the goodness of his heart, but will be happy to help in exchange for three Missisippis worth of boob. After a living room peep show, he is more than ready to work.

Later, Alex and Tina babysit so Michelle can get her amateur dominatrix on, which results in a little misunderstanding and a lot of below the belt injury after an attempted spanking gone awry. Needless to say, Brett and Michelle have still not had sex this season.
