Death is sort of a way of life for a show dealing with vampires, witches, and werewolves. Plus whatever other supernatural creatures dare to go bump in the night. (We put absolutely nothing past the show's creators when it comes to new threats to our beloved characters. Looking at you, Heretics...)
Klaus Mikaelson is known for his murderous rampages, and New Orleans, the city he calls home, isn't immune to his rage. While he wasn't directly responsible for all of the following deaths, he definitely played a part in more than five.

1. Aiden
The award for the most recent death to break our hearts into a million tiny shards goes to Aiden. Klaus may have claimed responsibility for his death, but it was Dear Aunt Dahlia who magicked his heart right out of his chest in an alley in broad daylight. We'll never forget you, Aiden! Maybe Davina will figure out how to put your heart back into your now-charred chest and get it beating again.
2. Sophie Deveraux
The Originals fans instantly fell in love with free-spirited "I'm a witch but I don't want to be but now I have to be because my coven kills kids" Sophie Deveraux. We were quite devastated by the loss, especially since it was at the hands of her niece, Monique, whom Sophie had risked everything to save. YAY FAMILY.
3. Father Kieran
OMG! Father Kieran! Damn the witches who hexed him! (BTW, they got theirs too because KARMA.) Father Kieran was Cami's last living relative, the city's mediator between the humans and the supernaturals, and an all-around good guy. Plus he had a treasure trove of mystical items tucked away in a secret room in his secret apartment. At least he left Cami the key.
4. Mikael
Okay, so this guy has died like...three times. (Once when he vamped. Twice with the White Oak Stake.) Klaus has been directly responsible for two of the three and only the writers know how many more hundreds of times over the centuries before Mikael was put into a chained up nap by Abbie Bennett. The point is, he's dead now, just when we were starting to *maybe* like him. Emphasis on the maybe.
5. Gia
GIAAAAAAAAA!!!! Klaus killed Gia in order to teach Elijah a lesson after Elijah used a dagger to put Klaus down. No one will ever come close to being as smoking hot as she was when she literally held Elijah's heart in her hand. Dammit, Klaus! Why can't Elijah ever have nice things?!
6. Kol
Kol, aka Koleb, aka Davina's hot boyfriend and Klaus' sneaky, cheeky, devil of a brother, died by hex during The Originals Season 2. That's after Original Kol died at the hands of Jeremy the Vampire Hunter during The Vampire Diaries Season 5. We're still hoping Davina's able to use her new position as Regent of the covens to revive Koleb. Come on, Vincent! Help a sisterwitch out!
7. Celeste
Oh, Elijah. Our poor, poor Elijah. Every time he falls in love with someone, Klaus has to go and kill her. Celeste was a witch who fell in love with Elijah, and whom Elijah loved in return, but Klaus killed her. Just because Elijah loved her. She held that grudge for a century and a half or more and returned to seek vengeance on both her former lover AND his brother.
8. Hayley Marshall
So Hayley Marshall didn't STAY dead, but when we watched the witches kill her just after she gave birth to Hope, we didn't KNOW she was coming back to life as a hybrid. Her rebirth as a hybrid was as shocking as her death. We're really hoping she gets to stick around for about a dozen more seasons of The Originals, but she and Elijah did have a thing so Klaus probably has a target on her back.
9. Davina Claire
Yeah, Davina died too. And then she came back. Thank you, Harvest Ritual! Whether or not she would return was pretty dicey, to be honest. It really could've gone either way. The writers could've chosen to end the Harvest witch storyline altogether but used that as an opening to bring Davina back to us along with Celeste, Papa Tunde, and...
10. Genevieve
Genevieve! She was resurrected by Celeste as the third Harvest girl to return, and she used her time to torment Rebekah and Klaus and reveal how Rebekah and Marcel had used her to lure Mikael to New Orleans in the 1920s. Klaus and Genevieve had a series of hook-ups and Genevieve was jealous of Klaus' relationship with Cami. Genevieve died when she couldn't sacrifice Hope to the witches.
11. Esther
Esther, or Lesther as we like to call her around here, was killed with vampire blood in her system, which meant she had to make a serious choice. Transition to vampire or die forever. Fans were elated that Esther's magic had finally been shut down. She chose to transition, which shocked NO ONE, and then Freya turned her into a million birds. What a way to die.
12. Thierry Vanchure
Thierry Vanchure became Marcel's best friend after Marcel thought Klaus had abandoned their home. He played a mean trumpet solo, but he fell in love with a witch. Marcel sentenced him to a year in the garden and Klaus freed him. One should never trust Klaus Mikaelson. It almost certainly means death.
13. Oliver
Losing Oliver was a travesty. I mean, LOOK AT THE BODY ON THAT WEREWOLF! Oliver was a foe, then a friend, then a foe, and then a friend again. He died a hero, and the show is somewhat bleaker without his abs on display. It's time to show us what you've got, Jackson...
14. Monique Deveraux
Monique Deveraux's death wasn't so much shocking as it was a cause for celebration. A true believer before the Harvest, she came back from the other side COMPLETELY INSANE. Homegirl tried to kill EVERYBODY! Disagree with Monique and you die. But then Monique died when she stole a newly hybridized Hayley's baby. She deserved it.
15. A Boatload of Vampires and Werewolves
Sometimes Elijah does the mass murdering (while barely getting his shirt dirty!) and sometimes Klaus does all the killing. And then sometimes they team up and work together and basically no one is making it out alive when that happens. Those fight scenes are some of the best fight scenes and remind us all why we're #TeamOriginals.
